Every school year, we hear the same concern from parents: “I don’t think my child is eating enough at school.”
Sometimes, it’s not about what’s packed in the lunchbox; it’s whether your child can easily open it, eat their food, and pack everything back up on their own.
Here are some simple tips from Sahuarita School District that can make lunchtime a little easier:
1. Practice opening lunch containers at home.
2. Skip glass containers and choose kid-friendly options.
3. Pre-open or tear snack packages so little hands can manage them.
4. Make sure your child can open their juice pouch/water independently.
5. Practice zipping up their lunchbox and putting everything back inside.
6. Discuss time management in the lunchroom. Eat before play.
These may seem like small things, but they can help kids feel more confident, spend less time struggling with their lunch, and have more time to actually eat.
If you have concerns about your child’s appetite, growth, or nutrition, talk with your pediatrician. We’re always happy to help your child grow and thrive at school and at home. ❤️
And a big thank-you to Sahuarita School District for sharing these helpful back-to-school tips!
