"In 1998, Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s directors Donovan Zimmerman and Jan Burger met and began a collaboration of epic proportions. Since then, 25 years ago, they have been using papier-mâché, cardboard, bamboo, your old house paints, cloth, and other assorted junk (treasure to us!) to create incredible giant puppets, masks, shadow plays and spectacle performances for all ages.”

Our residents were treated to a truly magical evening with Paperhand Puppet Intervention—where imagination, artistry, storytelling, and a little bit of “treasure” came together in spectacular fashion.

With larger-than-life puppets, mesmerizing performances, colorful characters, and a wonderful message woven throughout, the evening reminded us that art has a wonderful way of inspiring, surprising, and connecting us at any age.

The games are on! Friends Homes residents are gearing up for the 2026 Kintura Olympics, bringing together friendly competition, team spirit and plenty of opportunities to connect.

From golf and bocce to billiards, Wii bowling and more, residents will compete, cheer each other on and build friendships with residents from across Kintura communities.

A Little Tea, A Lot of Art!

Our recent trip to the Cedar Creek Gallery National Teapot Show was anything but ordinary! From whimsical to wonderfully creative, we enjoyed admiring teapots that proved there’s so much more to tea than the cup.

A great day filled with art, inspiration, good company—and plenty of “Oh, look at THAT one!” moments!

Inspired by Dolly’s beloved “Coat of Many Colors,” each bright swirl reminded us that something beautiful can be created from many different pieces—and that love is what makes it truly special.

Learning doesn't stop at graduation—it lasts a lifetime.

At Friends Homes, lifelong learning means stepping beyond our campus to discover new places, new perspectives, and new experiences. Whether exploring local history at the Greensboro History Museum and the The Old Mill of Guilford, reflecting on the legacy of Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum State Historic Site, finding peace in nature at St Francis Springs Prayer Center, or strolling through the fragrant fields of Lazy Fox Lavender Farm, every outing is an opportunity to grow.

These experiences do more than fill our calendars. They keep our minds curious, our bodies moving, and our spirits refreshed. Even moments of quiet reflection can nurture well-being, proving that learning isn't always found in a classroom—sometimes it's found on a walking trail, in a museum gallery, or in the beauty of a lavender field.

Because healthy aging is about more than staying active—it's about staying engaged, inspired, and always open to learning something new.
