Divorce & Healing Series: Day 2
Grieving Someone Who’s Still Alive
One of the hardest parts of divorce isn’t just the end of a relationship.
It’s grieving someone who’s still here.
You find yourself mourning the person you believed you would grow old with—the shared plans, the vacations you never took, the holidays you imagined, the grandchildren you pictured, and the future you once felt certain about.
What makes this kind of loss so painful is that there is no clear ending. No funeral. No final goodbye. Just memories that linger while you adjust to a reality you didn’t choose.
As a therapist, I want to gently remind you:
Your grief is valid.
Healing doesn’t follow a straight line. Some days you may feel a sense of relief or hope. Other days, something as simple as a song, a photograph, or a familiar place can bring everything back.
Be gentle with yourself in those moments.
Allow yourself to rest when you need it. Allow yourself to cry when it comes. Allow yourself to laugh without questioning it. And allow yourself to heal at a pace that feels human, not rushed.
Healing is not about erasing what happened. It’s about learning how to carry your past without letting it define your future.
The life you planned may be gone…
But your life is still unfolding.
And even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, there is a version of you on the other side of this pain who is lighter, freer, and deeply rooted in her own strength. A version of you who will look back and realize you didn’t just survive this—you reclaimed yourself through it.
So today, even in your grief, I want you to remember this:
You are not stuck in what was.
You are becoming who you are meant to be.
And every time you choose yourself—every time you breathe through the ache, set a boundary, or take one small step forward—you are returning home to you.
This pain will not last forever.
And neither will this version of your story.
A new chapter is already waiting for you—one where you are no longer just healing from loss, but rising into your own wholeness, peace, and power.
Keep going.
You are coming back to yourself.
Now go be magical.💫🦄🌈🔥
