Guilford County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day. Several county services will continue normal operation including EMS, Sheriff's Office, and Child and Adult Protection Teams. County offices will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8.

☀️Heat safety reminder: It only takes minutes for the inside of a parked vehicle to become dangerously hot, even if the windows are cracked. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle, even for a quick errand.

Help keep everyone by remembering to:
✅ Check the back seat before you lock your car.
✅ Leave an essential item, such as your purse, wallet or shoes, in the back seat as a reminder to check before getting out.
✅ Keep a visual reminder, such as a toy or diaper bag, in the front seat.
✅ If you see a child or pet left unattended in a vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately.

The City of Greensboro will activate an Orange Flag cooling center tonight in response to the extreme heat.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open Monday, August 31, from 7 pm to 7 am at the Interactive Resource Center (IRC), 407 E. Washington St. It is available to single adults and families.

The Orange Flag is activated when the weather forecasts indicate:
* Daytime temperatures/heat index will be 90+ degrees and
* Overnight temperatures will not fall below 70 degrees

August 31 is the 55th day the City has activated the Orange Flag overnight cooling center since June 6.

Please note that daytime cooling centers operate in Greensboro seven days a week during the summer—even when the Orange Flag has not been activated. For more information on the daytime cooling centers and the weekday hydration station, visit www.Greensboro-nc.gov/coolingservices.
