The City of Greensboro will activate an Orange Flag cooling center tonight in response to the extreme heat.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open 7 pm, Thursday, June 18, to 7 am, Friday, June 19, at the Caldcleugh Center, 1700 Orchard St. It is available to single adults and families.

Join Guilford County Public Health's Drug and Injury and Violence Prevention Programs and the Guilford County Sheriff's Office Re-Entry Initiative for a Re-Entry Simulation event on June 26th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Simkins Pavilion in Barber Park (1500 Barber Park Dr., Greensboro)!

Facilitated by the NC Department of Adult Corrections, this no-cost event provides participants with a firsthand understanding of the challenges individuals face when returning to their communities after incarceration. Through an immersive simulation, participants will explore barriers to re-entry, reduce stigma, build empathy and foster collaboration to create a more supportive environment for returning citizens.

Guilford County offices will be closed Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

Essential county services will remain operational including Guilford County EMS, Guilford County Sheriff's Office, Guilford County Child and Adult Protection Teams, and Guilford Metro 911. Guilford County Parks will be open to the public.

County offices will return to normal operating hours on Monday, June 22.

The City of Greensboro will activate the overnight Orange Flag cooling center starting at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 12th, Saturday June 13th, and Sunday June 14th, 2026 in response to the extreme heat.

NEW LOCATION
For this weekend, Orange Flag will be located at Caldcleugh Center, 1700 Orchard ST, Greensboro, NC 27406 from 7pm-7am each night.

The IRC (407 E Washington St. Greensboro) will still be open Saturday and Sunday for day cooling between 11AM and 5 PM. * The AC in the day center is not currently working, but they have
industrial fans and lots of water!*

Orange Flag is staffed by Community Safety employees and is open to both single adults and families.
Orange Flag Activation Orange Flag is activated when forecasted daytime temperatures reach 90°F or higher and overnight temperatures do not fall below 70°F.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of central NC for Friday from 11 AM to 8 PM. Heat indices may approach as high as 107 degrees. Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of direct sun, limit outdoor exertion, and never leave people or pets in a closed car.

Guilford County recognizes and celebrates the contributions, resilience, and diverse experiences of our LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is a time to come together and honor the importance of dignity, respect, and the rights of all people to live authentically.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as Pride Month at their June 4 meeting. The Board of Commissioners encourages everyone to respect and honor our diverse community, and to participate in activities that build dialogue, strengthen alliances, and advance the equal rights of all individuals.
