As we close BIPOC Mental Minority Month
We want to honor the founder Bebe Campbell
A pioneering voice in mental health advocacy within the Black community, Bebe Moore Campbell co-founded the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Urban Los Angeles chapter. Her work helped bring national attention to disparities in mental health care, and July is now recognized as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in her honor. Her literary contributions, including novels like “Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine” and “72 Hour Hold,” have not only entertained but also educated and inspired dialogue about mental health challenges faced by underrepresented communities.
Bebe’s relentless dedication to advocacy and her ability to weave powerful narratives have left a lasting impact on mental health awareness and access to care. Her legacy continues to inspire efforts to create a more equitable and compassionate mental health care system, reminding us all that every voice matters in the journey toward healing and understanding.
