Investing in the future of healthcare starts with investing in the students who will one day provide it.

This year, DCMH awarded $13,000 in Healthcare Scholarships, providing 13 local students with $1,000 scholarships as they pursue careers in healthcare.

These students represent the compassion, dedication, and commitment to service that will shape the future of care in our community.

Congratulations to this year's recipients from Greensburg Community High School North Decatur Jr-Sr High School and Decatur Jr-Sr High School.

Celebrating a Year of Career Exploration in Healthcare

DCMH has proudly wrapped up another successful year of career-based exploration in the healthcare field.

This year, we were honored to welcome over 30 students from Greensburg Community Schools, Decatur County Community Schools, and Jac-Cen-Del Community School Corporation.

Throughout the year, students gained hands-on exposure to a wide range of care settings, from inpatient units to outpatient services, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how a healthcare system operates. In collaboration with East Indiana Area Health Education Center, students also explored educational pathways across a variety of healthcare careers. They reflected on their own strengths, interests, and characteristics to better understand where they may thrive.

Learning extended far beyond observation. Students participated in interactive experiences such as analyzing radiology reports, assessing lung sounds using simulation mannequins, and engaging in activities designed to deepen their understanding of body systems and patient care.

While at DCMH, each student had the opportunity to shadow in at least 10 different care areas. Along the way, they were encouraged to observe workflows, compare team-based versus independent roles, understand the education required for each specialty, and consider how their personal strengths align within the healthcare environment.

We are incredibly proud of these students and grateful for the partnerships that made these experiences possible. The future of healthcare is bright!

May is National Bike Month! DCMHโ€™s board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, Matthew DeWitt, marked the occasion by donning his Cancer Heroes cycling kit in support of cancer research efforts through the Heroes Foundation.

An avid cyclist himself, Dr. DeWitt understands the importance of staying active and maintaining mobility at every stage of life. With more than 20 years of experience in podiatric medicine, he provides surgical and non-surgical care for conditions affecting the feet and ankles, helping patients return to the activities they enjoy.

The Heroes Foundation supports cancer research, prevention, and patient care initiatives, helping advance efforts that impact individuals and families facing cancer diagnoses.
