We honor the wonderful life of Alfred S. Gates, Jr.

Prior to retirement, Alfred was employed as a chemist with Kennametal. He was a member of Charter Oak Church where he was a volunteer with the food pantry. Alfred also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a mentor and tutor to school children to help them read. Alfred was a US veteran and served in the Army.

We honor the wonderful life of Rev. James I. “Jim” Lyons.

Jim lived a life devoted to his family, faith, service, and community. Jim grew up in “Hilltop” and was a graduate of Greensburg-Salem High School and a guard on their championship Basketball teams in the 1950’s, where he was fondly known by his teammates as “Eggy.” He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served in Alaska. He studied accounting at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and earned his degree in Economics from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, where he met his beloved Alabama-born wife, Betty Jo Reynolds Lyons. He also attended Evangel Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, further preparing him for a lifetime of Christian ministry. Jim’s professional career began in accounting, where he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service and various medical and other professionals and businesses to provide accounting and financial services over the years. In the 1990’s, he began a long, rewarding career in the motivational and Christian publishing industry, beginning at Whitaker House. He spent his most rewarding professional years with Fleming H. Revell Company, founded in New Jersey, where he pioneered Manna Books, whose office was located in Greensburg. Manna became one of the most successful divisions of Revell, reflecting Jim’s vision, leadership, and dedication to Christian publishing, expanding the delivery of Christian and motivational books to innovative and previously untapped retail markets. Jim’s parents were the founders of Full Gospel Church in Greensburg during World War II. Jim assisted them through his young adulthood in ministry there. After retiring from the publishing industry, Jim devoted himself fully to ministry. He and his wife served at Full Gospel Church, and he later founded numerous churches throughout the Greensburg area, including Alpha Ministries. Those ministries touched the lives of countless individuals and families through his faith, guidance, and service. His commitment to spreading the Gospel and building communities of faith remained an important part of his life. Jim leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, family, service, and ministry. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him, and his influence will continue through the many lives he touched.

Her first job out of High School was Robertshaw in Indiana, PA. She retired from Westinghouse in Blairsville, Pa and after her retirement she was a caregiver for many years.

We celebrate the wonderful life of Dr. William Dorsey Beam.

As a youngster, living on a farm, raising cattle and horses was a beginning step toward the chosen profession for his life. Bill’s education began in Moundsville elementary school, and middle schooling was at Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, WV. He graduated from Moundsville High School, class of 1956. After high school, Ohio State University was his choice, earning a BS degree in Agriculture. Continuing onward, Bill graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in June,1965 having bestowed on him the title of DVM. While attending OSU, he was a member of the OSU football team and became a letterman under the coaching of Woody Hayes. As a member of the OSU football team, Bill celebrated with his teammates the ’57 National Collegiate Football Championship. Dr. Beam settled in the Greensburg area with his family and began his career of Veterinary Medicine at the Animal Hospital of Greensburg. Being called to many farms in the area, he initially pursued a large animal practice. He later transitioned into a full time small animal practice. In 1984 he fulfilled his dream of having a log cabin built and opened its doors as “Dr. Beam’s Animal Hospital”. After practicing Veterinary Medicine for 53 years, he retired in 2018. Bill had a dry and unique wit. Those who got to know him were able to see the “Teddy Bear” side of him from the straightforward and gruff side they thought they knew. His kindness and helpfulness was well appreciated, and his generosity touched many, especially his family, each and every one. He was deeply loved and respected by his 3 children and spouses, 8 grandchildren, and 7 greats. A started project was never left unfinished. Traveling stateside and abroad, Bill enjoyed experiencing many different countries and cultures. Football, sports in general, and NASCAR were TV favorites. Antiquing and attending farm auctions delighted him.

We celebrate the wonderful life of George E. “Eric” Wampler. Eric graduated from Carrick High School after which he joined the Job Corps, where he learned the painting trade. Prior to retirement, he worked as a painter for the IUPAT District Council 57, Local 6. Eric also loved painting for family and friends. He was a member of Trinity Community Methodist Church, Greensburg. Eric was a quiet and unassuming man but would never miss an opportunity to help others. His passion was skydiving and he had over 325 jumps which seemed so out of character for those who knew him. He and Flo enjoyed square and round dancing and were members of Footloose and Franklin square dance clubs. They also enjoyed motorcycling trips together

We celebrate the wonderful life of Gilbert “Gibb” Owens.

Gibb was a 1955 graduate of Jeannette High School, where he played the tuba in the school band and years later, he served on the class reunion committee.

Gibb was a member of Trinity Community Methodist Church in Greensburg. Prior to retirement, he worked 50 years as salesman for OMNOVA Solutions in Jeannette. Gibb also worked at Cloverleaf Golf Course for another 16 years. He was a member of the Jeannette Jaycees and as a past vice president of Pennsylvania, he received an Award of Honor from the President of the Pennsylvania Jaycees.

He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Australia, and vacationing with his family in Nags Head, NC and Kiawah Island, SC. He was a member of Chip and Putt Golf League for many years and president of the Hempfield Area High School Band Parents. Gibb was an avid fan of West Virginia University football and attended games with his family.
