What started as an empty room has been transformed into a space designed for movement, exploration, confidence, and FUN! 🥰

🎨 Learning Through Play in Pediatric OT! 🖐️✨

Today’s OT session was all about play, creativity, and building important skills! Our little learner explored a variety of activities using Play-Doh, scissors, and sensory materials to support:

🟡 Hand strengthening – squeezing, rolling, pinching, and manipulating Play-Doh to build those little hand muscles
✂️ Fine motor & cutting skills – practicing scissor control, coordination, and precision
🎨 Visual-motor skills – creating pictures and designs while working on hand-eye coordination
🌈 Sensory processing – engaging with different textures and tactile input in a fun, supportive way
💪 Hand strength & dexterity – developing the foundation needed for everyday tasks like handwriting, dressing, and opening containers

The best part? They’re working hard while having fun! 💕 Pediatric OT uses meaningful play to help children build the skills they need for participation and independence in everyday life.

Hi! My name is Leslie Miller and I'm an Occupational Therapy Assistant who is very excited to join the team here at Toman Therapeutic Services. I earned my Associates of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistance from the Community College of Allegheny County in 2007. I come from a background working in a variety of long-term care settings, which helped build a strong foundation in patient-centered care. About 3 years ago, I transitioned into pediatrics and quickly discovered my passion for working with children of all ages. I have worked with school age and currently work full time with the early intervention (3-5) program throughout Westmoreland County. I love supporting kids in developing the skills they need to grow, gain independence, and succeed in their everyday lives. I enjoy bringing creativity and fun into each session, using play and sensory-based activities to keep kids engaged while working toward their individualized goals. I’m excited to support our clients and connect with families along the way!

🎄✨ Holiday Cheer in OT! ✨🎄

This season, our pediatric outpatient OT sessions have been full of creativity and joy! From painting festive masterpieces, to stringing beads for fine motor fun, to decorating Christmas trees, our kids have been busy building skills while celebrating the holidays. 🎨🧵🌟

These activities support:
• Fine motor strength and coordination
• Visual-motor integration
• Attention, creativity, and confidence
• Following directions and completing projects

Most importantly, they bring smiles, laughter, and holiday magic to every session.

✨ Exciting News! ✨ Please help us welcome Callie, our newest member of Toman Therapeutic Services! Callie has a strong background in working with children and is passionate about helping kids grow and thrive. We’re so excited for the families in our practice to get to know her!

Hi, my name is Callie Norman, and I’m an Occupational Therapy Assistant here at Toman Therapeutic Services. I earned my Associates of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistance from the Community College of Allegheny County in 2020. I bring over 5 years of experience working in a school-based setting, where I supported students in developing the skills they needed to succeed in learning, play, and daily routines. That experience has helped shape my passion for empowering children to reach their fullest potential through meaningful and engaging therapy while helping children grow with confidence and independence.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as the COTA Representative for District II of the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association (POTA) and am the new Second Co-Chair for the Children & Youth Special Interest Section (SIS). These roles allow me to advocate for the occupational therapy profession, stay connected with current best practices, and bring fresh, evidence-based strategies and resources into my work with children and families.
Here at Toman Therapeutic Services, I plan to collaborate closely with Megan, families, and caregivers to create individualized sessions that are both fun and goal driven. My goal is to make therapy a positive, encouraging experience where every child feels supported, successful, and celebrated.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and can usually be found with a good cup of coffee in hand. I love being outdoors and often visit local parks with my energetic 5-year-old German Shepherd mix, Roo!
