The window of tolerance was developed to help people understand their level of balance (“tolerance”) to situations that they experience. The “green” zone (“tolerance”) is when you are operating at an optimal state. The “red” zone is when you are feeling panicked and overwhelmed (marked by racing thoughts and shallow breathing). The “grey” zone is when we feel depressed and lethargic (marked by our having difficulty getting motivated to do things).

This image is an easy way to understand our responses to stressful situations. Are you able to determine when you are at your window of tolerance? What helps you be calm and thoughtful?

On the other hand, what creates stress in your life that “shuts you down”? How do you manage those situations? What brings you back down to “normal”?

Our Beacon therapists are national experts at helping you be your best self and responding to stressful situations. Contact us today for help!
