Doing hard things changes you.

Not because they’re hard.

Because every time you choose the difficult path, you prove to yourself you’re capable of more than you thought.

One more rep.
One more set.
One more decision to keep going.

That’s how confidence is built.

Not by thinking differently.

By acting differently, over and over again, until it becomes part of who you are.

Keep showing up…like Lindsay Martin McGrath

The results will follow.

Who’s really in charge when discomfort hits? 💭

Most people blame a lack of discipline.

What gets overlooked is what happens in the moments discomfort shows up.

Your mind begins negotiating:

“I’ll do it tomorrow.”
“I deserve a break.”
“One time won’t matter.”

It sounds reasonable.
That’s why it’s so easy to believe, and that’s why it works.

Everything begins to change when temporary feelings stop making your decisions. 🧠

Growth comes from repeatedly choosing what matters, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Motivation helps, but it isn’t what carries you through difficult moments. 💪

If you’ve ever wondered why pressure causes you to abandon your commitments, I break it down in my latest Substack article.

Stop negotiating with the moment.
Start becoming someone you can trust.

Don’t just train your body.
Train the mind that leads it.

Because lasting transformation is never just about workouts.

It’s how you think.
How you eat.
How you respond under pressure.
How you build habits when motivation fades.
How you keep showing up when life gets uncomfortable.

That’s what I write about on Substack.

Big shoutout to OG client Morgan Leigh Flack.

Just 48 hours after surgery and she’s already back in the gym.

I love this mindset. Don’t waste energy thinking about what you can’t do. Show up, do what you can, and keep moving forward.

That’s how progress is made.

Proud of you.

I think something we can all take away from this is to stop obsessing over what’s off-limits and start making the most of what’s still available. 💪

If you want results that only 1% achieve, you can’t keep making the same choices as the other 99% 💭

Success isn’t reserved for the most talented.
It’s earned by those willing to do what others avoid.

The difficult conversation.
The early workout.
The uncomfortable decision.
The action taken before confidence arrives.

Growth begins where comfort ends ✨

Most people wait until they feel ready.
The people who succeed move before they’re ready.

The question is: what uncomfortable step are you avoiding today? 👇

You don’t have five different problems. You have one pattern.

You eat too fast.

You can’t relax on vacation.

You feel guilty sitting still.

You reach for your phone the second there’s silence.

You pour a drink because it’s finally the first moment your body slows down.

It looks like a bunch of unrelated habits.

But what if they’re all the same habit?

What if they’re all different ways of responding to the same stress, pressure, uncertainty, or discomfort?

That’s why so many people struggle to change.

They keep attacking the behavior while the pattern quietly recreates itself.

The goal isn’t to become more disciplined.

It’s to understand what the behavior is doing for you so you can choose something different. ✨

That’s where real change begins.

I break this down in my newest article:

“Why the Habit Is Never Just the Habit.”

If your peace depends on everything going right today…
you’re going to lose it fast 🧠

Your to-do list won’t always be finished.
Your kids won’t always act right.
People online will still annoy you.
Life will still interrupt your plan.

So the real question is not:
“How do I control everything?”

It’s:
“How do I return to myself when I feel pulled away?”

Because most reactions don’t start loud.

They start as a small trigger…
then a thought loop…
then a story…
then suddenly you’re reacting like the situation owns you.

That’s where the work begins.

Not by forcing calm.
Not by pretending stress isn’t there.

But by learning how to pause, reset, and come back to what’s real.

Your peace can’t depend on life being perfect.
It has to come from your ability to lead yourself when life isn’t.

I break this down deeper in my article
“Returning to Reality Beneath Stress and Stimulation.”

Every long hike teaches the same thing: emotions change if you keep moving.

And sometimes movement becomes service.

Today’s 8 mile hike is part of my training and fundraising effort for CureSearch to support children and families facing cancer.

Childhood cancer survival rates have risen from 10% to over 85% over the last 40 years because research matters.

CureSearch has awarded more than $12 million in research grants in the last 5 years, funding treatments that are 7x more likely to advance to clinical trials.

Please help me turn miles into impact, the donation link is in my bio. Even $20 adds up and makes a difference. Will you support the cause?

It’s whether you’re choosing the behavior
or the behavior is choosing you 🧠

That’s the real difference most people miss

The action itself isn’t always the issue
Your relationship to the action is

Working out can be intentional
or it can become automatic

Reading can be a conscious choice
or it can become avoidance

Scrolling can be automatic
but so can any behavior you use to escape discomfort

That’s why labeling the behavior alone isn’t enough

The question is not just
“What am I doing?”

The better question is
“Why am I doing this right now?”

Because some behaviors are chosen with awareness
and others are conditioned responses running on autopilot 🔁

Avoiding hard conversations
starting tomorrow
reaching for food or your phone when stress hits

These may not be your personality

They may be patterns you’ve practiced so often
they started feeling like who you are

Awareness gives you space
and space gives you choice ✨

So ask yourself today:
Am I leading this behavior
or is this behavior leading me?
