Old refrigerators and window air conditioners can't just be tossed - federal rules require the refrigerant be recovered first, and disposal sites have to document it. That squeal on startup is your belt drive telling you something. Most times it's the tensioner or a dragging pulley, not the belt - put a new belt on a bad tensioner and it squeals again in a month. Belt and tensioner together runs $250-$450 regional. Let it snap and cook the engine, you're past $1,700.

Mississippi asphalt in late August will cook a tire from the inside out. Heat raises the pressure in a tire that's already low, the sidewall flexes more than it should, and that's how a blowout happens at 65 on Highway 82.

Check your pressure in the morning before you drive — hot tires read high and lie to you. Look for uneven wear, cracks in the sidewall, and anything stuck in the tread. Don't forget the spare.

Nissan Rogue, 2014 to 2018: the CVT starts juddering at light throttle around 20 to 40 mph, like rolling over rumble strips. Nissan has a bulletin on the 2014 to 2016 models, NTB15-084b. The class-action warranty extension ran 84 months from in-service and is expired on nearly all of them now. Fluid service runs $150 to $250. A reman CVT installed runs $3,500 to $5,500.
