UPDATE August 24, 2026 (4 days after total knee replacement)

I feel like I'm doing good. Haven't taken narcotics/pain meds since the first night after surgery when I got home. If its too painful, I take Tylenol only to do some of my 3 sets of exercises every day, but not all the time. The most pain is bending the knee to regain the flexion. I appreciate my friend's ice machine she let me borrow for after exercises since the hospital's do not give them out anymore.
It was more painful having rotator cuff surgery in 2017 than this total knee replacement. It was more painful just walking and standing the last 2 years with the arthritis and damage done more than the recovery itself. I'm using a walker for now to get around the house.

They did a lot more than I thought during the surgery. Removed both meniscus (the cushion between both knees that act as your shock absorbers), removed the ACL (ligament that was repaired in 1999), scraped off all the bones spurs on the both leg bones and around the knee cap.
Removed the tibial screw from the original ACL surgery. He said it was already coming out. They took some of my femur bone and scraped it and made a concoction with it to plug the tibial screw hole.

I go back Sept 18th to get the stitches out and start real PT in about 2 weeks.

My husband is home from work until Friday and is extremely helpful making meals and assisting me with all my needs.
I have had a couple people bring us some meals which were so delicious and a blessing. I'm sure Ted gets tired of cooking. Lol

I'll get the right knee replaced on October 29th which will take less time to recover than this left knee. There's no hardware in the right knee that would need to be addressed.

Here's my new left knee. If you need a recommendation for an excellent hospital and surgeon, I went to Wash U via BJC and Dr Ilya Bendich did the surgery with the Mako Robatic Arm assistance.

All in all, I'm very happy with my progress but the specialist will determine that in September. I won't be too bored during the recovery. I have about 20 hours of CEU's to do for my massage license before the year ends and some CEU's for my medical coding and some taxes to do. I'll be productive while healing!

I have a 9 am massage opening tomorrow for 90 minutes OR a 10 am for 60 minutes. PLEASE be healthy since I am having surgery August 20th and do not want to be exposed to any back to school crude that happens every year Lol

My surgery is gonna be sooner than 8 Sept and will now be Aug 20th.

The left knee will be first since it hurts the worst. That will come with a screw removal and bone graft.

The right knee will be done Oct 29th.

Now that I have informed my current massage clients, I will post this here for anyone on my wait list.

I saw my knee doctor on 7/21/2026 and we have decided to have my knees done this year. We have been doing cortisone shots for at least 4 years and it is time.

Sept 8, 2026, Tuesday: Full Replacement on right knee

Oct 29, 2026, Thursday: Full Replacement on left knee and removing at least one existing screw from a previous ACL surgery from 1999 that will require a bone graft.

Most likely I will be out until the end of the year, but I will do my best to get back to working ASAP. I will keep my current appointments for December just in case I feel like massaging by then and will keep you up to date with my progress.

My last massage day is September 4th.

There is a couple massage therapists in the area who have given me permission for you to contact while I am on surgery leave.

I ask for Jerry for deep tissue, but there are other women there to help you. You may not get a heated table, nor the heated neck pads or essential oils, music, etc that I provide, so don’t expect a nice ambiance, but they do good work.

My infrared sauna could still be used post op when I am no longer on a walker; but please text 618 578 1808 to see how I am feeling. I do have 2 steps to climb down to the sauna room.
