Today, we mourn the loss of Dolly Parton, a beloved icon whose kindness and generosity touched millions of lives.

Through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she turned her love of children and reading into a lasting legacy, putting books into the hands of children and helping families create special moments together.

Here in Ohio, that legacy continues. More than 28 million books have been mailed to Ohio children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, giving children the opportunity to build a love of reading from an early age.

We are grateful for the incredible impact Dolly made on children and families, and for the gift she continues to give through every book that arrives in a child’s mailbox.

Her legacy will live on – one child, one family, and one book at a time. πŸ“šβ€οΈ

To the mom trying to do it all, perfectly, every single day: This is your gentle reminder to take a deep, long breath. 🀍

In a world filled with curated social media feeds, it is incredibly easy to fall into the trap of thinking everyone else has it completely figured out. We strive for the perfect routine, the perfect organic meals, the perfectly tidy house, and the perfect parental patience.

Letting go of "perfect" isn't giving up. It’s choosing peace. It's choosing to be present with your children instead of being preoccupied with a checklist. Your kids don't need a perfect mother; they just need *you*.

So today, give yourself permission to lower the bar. Leave the laundry on the couch, embrace the chaos, and give yourself the same grace you so freely give to everyone else. You are doing an amazing job. β˜€οΈ

Hearing your little one cry can be incredibly stressful, especially when you are trying to guess what they need. While every baby has their own unique voice, infant cries generally fit into a few main categories.

🍼 Hungry Cry – This usually starts as a small whimper and slowly dials up the volume into a repetitive, starving cry. Once you start feeding them, they will typically quiet right down!

πŸ”Š Upset Cry – These are loud, sudden cries that seem to come out of nowhere. If it’s not a dirty diaper, they might be fearful of a loud noise, frustrated by a toy, bored, or just lonely and looking for a cuddle.

πŸ›‘ Overstimulated or Overtired Cry – When there is too much noise, movement, or activity around them, babies can cry to release tension. If they are overtired or overstimulated, tamping down the noise, dimming the lights, and giving them a peaceful space will help them soothe.

⚑ Pain or Gas Cry – This is often the hardest cry to hear. It begins as a sudden, high-pitched, intense wail followed by loud crying. You might notice your baby tensing up, grunting, holding their breath, or arching their back. Often, these cries are triggered by trapped gas, teething, or diaper rash.

πŸ’‘ Bonus tip: Have you ever heard of Dunstan Baby Language? Many parents swear by listening for these specific phonetic sounds right *before* a baby fully starts crying:
* "Neh" = I'm hungry!
* "Eh" = I need to burp.
* "Owh" = I'm sleepy.
* "Eairh" = I'm trying to pass gas.
* "Heh" = I'm feeling physical discomfort (like being too hot or wet).

You’re in the homestretch! 🏁 As you enter the third trimester, your body is working harder than ever to support both you and your rapidly growing baby.

Fueling your body with a healthy, well-balanced diet can also help ease common third-trimester symptoms like constipation and nausea. Here are some ideal foods to reach for:

πŸ₯¬ Vegetables: Pack your plate with carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, spinach, cooked greens, tomatoes, and sweet red peppers for an excellent boost of vitamin A and potassium.
🍎 Fruits: Snack on cantaloupe, honeydew, mangoes, prunes, bananas, apricots, and oranges to keep your potassium up.
πŸ₯› Dairy: Reach for fat-free or low-fat yogurt, skim or 1% milk, and soymilk to get plenty of calcium, potassium, and vitamins A and D.
🌾 Grains & Proteins: Fuel up on ready-to-eat or cooked cereals (great for iron and folic acid!), beans, peas, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins like beef, lamb, pork, salmon, trout, herring, sardines, and po***ck.
πŸ’§ Fluids: Staying hydrated is key! Make sure you are drinking several glasses of water each day, alongside fluids from juices and nutritious soups.

Don't forget to keep chatting with your health care provider or midwife about your prenatal supplements, caffeine restrictions, and tracking your weight gain as you approach the finish line. πŸ›’ Picture this: You're in the grocery store checkout lane, and your toddler suddenly has a massive meltdown because they can't have the candy bar they just spotted.

In public spaces, it’s easy to feel the pressure and worry that everyone is judging you. But according to the American Psychological Association (APA), tantrums are completely normal at this age!

Toddlers (aged 18 to 36 months) are beginning to realize they are separate individuals with their own power, which means they love to regularly test their limits. Combined with a strong sense of ownership, difficulty waiting, and a limited vocabulary to express big feelings, it’s a recipe for frequent frustration.

When a public "storm" hits, here are a few expert-backed strategies to handle it calmly:
* πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Stay calm – Remind yourself that they aren't trying to give you a hard time; they are just *having* a hard time.
* 🀫 Use a few gentle but firm words – Avoid long explanations in the heat of the moment, as an overwhelmed brain can't process them.
* πŸͺ Try redirection – Distract them with something else immediately, like a book, a toy, or a task (e.g., asking them to help you choose an item or hold a grocery list).
* πŸšͺ Move to a quiet space – If they simply can't calm down, gently remove them from the environment to help them reset.

What's your go-to trick for handling public meltdowns? Let us know in the comments! πŸ’¬πŸ‘‡

Ever look at your baby while they are happily babbling and wonder what is going on in that beautiful little brain? πŸ§ πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Long before your baby says their very first "real" word, they are already laying down the ultimate foundation for speech. It all starts with early babbling!

According to the linguistics experts at Before First Words, early babbling is much more than just cute noise, it is a critical stage in your baby's language development:

🎢 Playing with sounds: Around 4 to 6 months old, babies love exploring what their vocal cords can do. You will hear them experiment with pitch, volume, and long vowel sounds like "oooo" and "aaaa".
πŸ‘„ Muscle workout: Making these funny noises is essentially a workout for their tongue, lips, and jaw, building the exact muscle control they will need to form words later on.
🀝 Learning to communicate: Even though they aren't using real words yet, babies use these sounds to get your attention and start learning the natural "give-and-take" rhythm of a real conversation.

Want to encourage your little babbler? The best thing you can do is babble right back! Treat their cute noises like a real conversation, leave spaces for them to respond, and watch their language skills bloom.
