Protect yourself from sun damage, which may lead to skin cancer. Talk to your primary care doctor or a dermatologist about annual skin screenings and let them know of any changes or irregularities to your skin. Early detection improves treatment success.

Skin cancer risk increases with personal or family history, fair skin, significant sun exposure or a weakened immune system. Regular exams and monthly self-checks are key, beginning in your early 20s.

ICYMI: Students recently had a chance to present on medical research at ECU Health Graduate Medical Education's 2026 GME Research Day across a wide array of topics encompassing clinical studies, quality improvement, patient safety and education.

Following oral presentations, a reception at the East Carolina Heart Institute saw leaders, physicians and team members navigate a sea of poster presentations, where researchers could share more about their chosen cases and topics.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of GME at ECU Health and at the end of this month we will welcome the latest class of residents. The program started with a single residency program and continues to expand and address the needs of patients in rural eastern North Carolina.

As a service representative at ECU Health, Logan Craft helps team members feel supported from day one, whether she's welcoming new hires, answering questions or providing guidance.

Outside of work, Craft spends her time training and competing with horses which is an experience that has taught her the importance of patience, responsibility and trust. Those lessons have shaped the way she approaches both her passion and her profession.

β€œHorses depend on me every day no matter how busy life gets,” Craft said, β€œand it’s the same for team members who come to HR for attention and care.”
