Heat Advisory Reminder for Our Community

The first stretch of hot summer weather is arriving, with heat index values expected to reach 95° to 100° today and Thursday.

High temperatures and humidity can affect anyone, but older adults and those with certain health conditions may be especially vulnerable.

If you're spending time outdoors:

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
• Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
• Check in on family, friends, and neighbors who may need assistance

We've included a helpful fact sheet with additional tips for staying safe during hot weather.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of yourself and one another.

Here are some more tips for Hot Weather Safety:

His collection of 1960s and 1970s favorites had residents singing along, tapping their toes, and reminiscing about cherished memories. The response was overwhelming, with many residents already asking when he'll be back.

Something exciting is growing at BRC!

We recently added 12 new raised garden beds, creating even more opportunities for residents to enjoy gardening, spend time outdoors, and watch something beautiful grow throughout the season.

A special thank you goes to Caden Buscher from the OSU Extension Office for sharing his gardening expertise. Caden helped us decide what to plant and provided valuable tips to help our gardens thrive. We appreciate his time, knowledge, and support as we get this project off to a great start.

We can't wait to see these gardens bloom and enjoy the harvest in the months ahead! Stay tuned for updates as our newest garden spaces begin to grow.

Investing in people is one of the best investments we can make.

Recently, several BRC and MHCO Care Partners participated in leadership training through Ohio Northern University. Throughout the program, they explored topics such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership development while gaining new skills they can bring back to their teams and those we serve every day.

We are proud of their commitment to personal and professional growth and grateful for the knowledge, dedication, and leadership they bring to our organization. Congratulations to all who participated!

Please help us congratulate Macy Thompson on graduating with her degree in Social Work!

Macy says graduation felt “surreal” and like she could finally breathe after all the hard work, and she’s proud that she never gave up along the way.

Her passion for social work comes from a desire to advocate for others in healthcare and help people feel seen, heard, and valued. In fact, Macy says one of the most important things to her is making people feel like they matter.

BRC has been part of Macy’s story for years. She previously worked here in Dining Services in 2019 and even volunteered here when she was younger, making this new chapter feel a little like coming home.

As she steps into her new role, Macy hopes residents will always feel valid, supported, and comfortable asking for help when they need it.

She’s also hoping to begin working toward her Master’s Degree this fall as she continues growing in the field she loves.

Macy shared some advice for other students working toward their degrees: “Try new things! Don’t limit yourself. Be open minded.”

And after a long day? Macy’s perfect way to relax is simple: an iced coffee and a good movie or TV show.

Congratulations, Macy! We’re excited to see the difference you’ll make at BRC.
