😂 Funny Therapy Friday

🧠 THERAPIST BRAIN: “Interesting. Let’s explore that.”

You ever say something completely casually in therapy…

“It’s probably nothing.” 😅

And your therapist pauses for approximately 0.7 seconds before saying:

“Interesting. Let’s explore that.” 👀

And suddenly you’re talking about something that happened in 2007. 😂

Because sometimes the thing we think is “nothing” actually connects to a pattern, belief, relationship, or experience that has been quietly influencing us for years.

Therapy isn't about digging up the past just for the sake of digging it up. 🕵️‍♀️

It's about understanding why something still affects you today and figuring out what you want to do differently moving forward. 🌱

So if your therapist has ever asked one innocent little question that somehow turned into a 45-minute conversation…

Yep. We've all been there. 😂

💜 Your past may explain you, but it doesn't have to define you.

👇 What year would your therapist accidentally uncover if you said, “It’s probably nothing”? 😂

“I SHOULD BE OVER THIS BY NOW.”

Have you ever said this to yourself?

Maybe you've been grieving, working through trauma, managing anxiety, navigating a major life change, or simply trying to move forward—and then suddenly you have a difficult day.

It can be tempting to think:

“Why am I still struggling?”
“I thought I was past this.”
“I should be doing better by now.”

But healing isn't a straight line.

You can make significant progress and still have moments when something hurts.

You can have a great week and still have a difficult day.

You can feel stronger than you did six months ago and still need support today.

A difficult day doesn't erase your progress.

Instead of asking:

❌ “Why am I still struggling?”

Try asking:

💜 “What do I need today?”

Maybe you need rest.
Maybe you need connection.
Maybe you need to set a boundary.
Maybe you need to talk to someone.
Maybe you simply need to give yourself some grace.

Healing isn't about reaching a point where you never struggle again.

It's about learning how to move through difficult moments with greater awareness, compassion, and support.

You don't have to be “over it” to be healing.

We owe you an apology. 💜

We made an error in our recent National Dog Day reel and included the wrong photo for one of our clinicians. That was our mistake, and we take full responsibility.

This has provided a valuable lesson, and this mistake will be used as a time for self-reflection. We appreciate everyone who brought this to our attention, and, most importantly, we apologize to the clinician who was misrepresented.

💪Therapy Word of the Day: RESILIENCE

In therapy, it's easy to focus on the challenges, barriers, symptoms, and things that aren't working. Those things matter—but they aren't the whole story.

Resilience matters because people are more than the struggles they are experiencing.

When therapists intentionally look for resilience, we also look at:

• What has helped someone keep going
• What strengths they already possess
• What they've survived
• What they've learned along the way
• What coping skills have helped them through difficult moments

Focusing on resilience doesn't minimize someone's challenges. It gives us another perspective.

Instead of only asking:

“What's wrong?”

We can also ask:

“What has helped you get this far?”

That question can help clients recognize that they already possess strengths that can become part of the path forward.

Resilience doesn't mean you weren't affected by what happened. It means what happened isn't the only thing that defines you.

Ever replay a conversation over and over?

“Why did I say that?”
“What if I had handled it differently?”
“What did they really mean?”

That's rumination—the tendency to repeatedly focus on distressing thoughts, problems, or past events without moving toward a solution.

A helpful question to try:

“Is there something I can actually do about this right now?”

If the answer is no, it may be time to give your brain a break.

Take a breath. Shift your attention. Come back to the present moment.

You don't have to solve every thought.

💜Sometimes we can't change what we're feeling until we acknowledge what we're feeling.

🧐Try getting more specific than “good” or “bad.”

Sometimes what looks like laziness is actually exhaustion, overwhelm, avoidance, or a nervous system that's been running on empty.

The behavior matters—but understanding what's underneath it matters, too.

If this resonated with you, follow Belle Tower Group for more therapy-based mental health content.
