Why does Suboxone have two medications? Dr. Andreas J. Edrich (MD, MBA, FASAM) explains the science behind Buprenorphine and Naloxone. Learn why Buprenorphine is the "Lamp Plug" that both stimulates and blocks receptors, while Naloxone acts as an "Airbag"β€”a safety feature that only activates in the event of misuse. Should We Treat Patients With Addiction? πŸ’Š

Would we deny a diabetic their insulin in jail? So why do we deny addiction patients their methadone or Suboxone? Dr. Andreas Edrich ("the addiction doc") makes a powerful case for why continuous, 24/7/365 addiction treatment including behind bars saves lives. He walks through the real, heartbreaking cycle of relapse after incarceration and highlights how states like Rhode Island are getting it right by keeping treatment consistent inside and outside jail.

πŸ”₯ Opioids today, benzodiazepines tomorrow? Dr. Andreas Edrich ("the addiction doc") breaks down why the next wave of the addiction crisis may be hiding in plain sight β€” and why treating chronic pain or anxiety with a "daily driver" medication is like sending a firefighter in with only a handful of tiny extinguishers.

Real, sustainable treatment means using the right tools β€” not just the easy ones. Read the full post to see why gradual, safer alternatives (not abrupt cutoffs) are the smarter path forward.

Meet Johnnie Tamny, PA-C! 🩺✨

We're proud to have Johnnie Tamny, PA-C on our Heritage Hills team since August 2024! Johnnie earned her undergraduate degree from Temple University and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She began her career in addiction medicine, developing a deep passion for serving an often underserved and stigmatized patient population and now brings that heart for care into family medicine, addiction care, and mental health here at Heritage Hills.

When she's not caring for patients, you'll find Johnnie on her yoga mat, curled up with a book, crocheting, hiking, or tending her indoor garden 🌿
