June is Men’s Health Awareness Month, and we at Life Help encourage men to care for their health by accessing support, undergoing regular screenings, and learning expanded and healthier ways of caring for yourselves through expression of emotions, needs, and self-care.

The fields of self-care, medicine, technology, health and wellness, and men’s care, in particular, are growing all the time. We understand more now than we did yesterday and have better tools to care for one another. We believe men should have every advantage to care for themselves.

We also understand prioritizing self-care can be difficult in a society that promotes high levels of achievement. If your family, friends, and community tend to come first, we understand, and we support you in your decision to care for others. We hope also for you to be your healthiest so that you may continue to choose all that is most important in your life.

Our best health is not a reward we earn. It is something we all deserve, and we wish that for you 💚

This month, we’re shining a light on the importance of mental wellness for the men in our lives. Strength isn't about carrying every burden alone, it's about knowing when to speak up, seek support, and prioritize your well-being.

Check in on the men you love. Create space for honest conversations. Listen without judgment. Mental health matters for everyone, and healing happens in community.

Life Help Community Mental Health Center is thrilled to hold our June 2026 Crisis Intervention (CIT) Training Academy at Delta State University this week in their beautiful Louis Baioni Conference Center. Thank you, DSU, for hosting us 💚

Law enforcement officers attending CIT Academy are developing new skills to help people with mental health and substance use conditions in their communities in times of crisis access the best care in the safest manner for them and others.

We move into the middle of this week’s academy with enthusiasm and excitement for this class. Officer, Tonda Latham, said, “It has been very educational. Even though I’ve worked in the mental health field before I didn’t know about a lot of the diagnoses. I also didn’t know about all of the services Life Help offered until now.”

The Association of Mississippi Peer Support Specialists-AMPSS (AMPSS) 2026 Conference was held the last week of May. Life Help Certified Peer Support Specialists, Julia Nobile (PACT Team), Kim Tackett (Mobile Crisis Response Team), Amy Tackett (Denton Center), and James Taylor (PACT Team) attended this year.

Nobile, who became a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in 2009, was one of Life Help and Mississippi’s two first CPSSes and was recognized at the conference for this groundbreaking achievement. Nobile said she felt empowered by her time with other CPSSes, having not seen many since before the Covid-19 pandemic. She said about the experience, “The 2026 Peer Conference was an enlightening and informative experience. I was around other people with mental illnesses, and we are working together as Peer Specialists to assist people in reaching their goals and getting the best quality of life possible and to also decrease stigma.”

Amy Tackett told us, “I thoroughly enjoyed the conference. It was my first year to attend. I thought it was very informative on several different topics. I also enjoyed meeting so many other peers like myself. I definitely look forward to attending next year. And this year I celebrated seven years of sobriety on the last day of the conference and was the winner of the $200.00 Master Card gift card raffle. WIN! WIN!”

Life Help CPSSes described this year’s 2026 AMPSS’ Conference as rejuvenating—connecting with old and new friends and validating challenges with an overwhelming positive focus on recovery. Kim Tackett said, “We had such a learning experience at the Conference! And I met and got to talk with other peers and even got to attend an early morning poolside recovery group, as well as many meetings that were offered by the Conference, which earned us CEU’s! It was my first, and it was an overall exciting and engaging Peer Conference! I’m so thankful I was afforded the opportunity to go and went!!!”

Thank you to Julia Nobile, Amy Tackett, Kim Tackett, and James Taylor for your contributions, and congratulations to Amy Tackett on your seven years of sobriety!

Nobile reminds us of a phrase mentioned throughout the days of the conference, one she benefited from and will take back to people she helps in their journey to recovery, “You are enough.”

MS Selected for CCBHC Demonstration – Life Help Named Pilot Site

Life Help is proud to announce that Mississippi has been selected as one of 10 states to participate in the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Medicaid Demonstration Program through a collaborative effort of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). As part of this exciting opportunity, Life Help has been designated as one of two pilot sites.

CCBHC is widely recognized as the national gold standard for community based mental health care. It is designed on the core value that all people deserve access to effective mental health and substance use treatment. We are excited about what this designation means for the future of behavioral healthcare in the Mississippi Delta and surrounding area and look forward to working with the MS Department of Mental Health and the MS Division of Medicaid.
