✨✨This month's Staff Spotlight shines on our EVS Manager, Lisa Newman! With 29 years of dedicated service, she has made a lasting impact through her hard work, leadership, and commitment to keeping our community a welcoming place for residents, families, and staff alike. Her sense of humor and ability to keep everyone grounded also make her a steady and uplifting presence throughout the team. We asked Lisa a few questions to learn more about her career, what she enjoys most about her role, and a few fun facts about her. Check out her answers below!✨✨

How long have you been with Brushy Creek?
•I have been here for 29 years – 10 at Roger Huntington and 19 at the cottages

What has kept you here for 29 years?
•I stayed for many reasons. I formed many close friendships with my coworkers. Engaging with residents was very rewarding.

What is your favorite part of interacting with our residents?
•I love hearing stories from residents/patients. I love seeing their enjoyment over the simpler things in life. It helps me stay balanced.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen over the years?
•There have been many changes over the years. Healthcare has changed and forced us to make necessary changes to continue to provide good care. The thing that hasn’t changed is that good elder care is needed so much.

What advice would you give someone just starting at Brushy Creek?
•I would advise anyone that is just starting to ask questions while you are learning. Develop a routine to help your day organized. Get to know your coworkers in your cottages so there can be teamwork. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. And always remember, the patients/residents are our top priority, and they need us to provide care.

If you could describe our team in three words, what would they be?
•Confident, calm, and compassionate is how I would describe us. Maybe not always, but you know.

What’s your favorite memory from your time here?
•I have so many memories from working here. I wish I had kept a journal. One things always comes to mind is interacting with two specific residents. It helped them tremendously and it helped me to see the reason why we do what we do.

What’s one thing you’re most proud of in your career?
•It’s a strange thing but I’m most proud that I didn’t give up, quit, and I didn’t let that stop learning and improving. I was once told that people didn’t think I would make it. I didn’t let that stop me. I changed, learned, and grew.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
•Outside of work I love music, spending time with family, and being a hermit. Especially after a long, hard week of work.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
•I once sang in a band in nightclubs around the upstate.

What’s your favorite food or restaurant?
•I love pot roast with gravy and my sister’s spaghetti.

What’s one word your coworkers would use to describe you?
•I don’t know how people see me (does anyone?). I would hope they would say caring, dedicated, hard worker… blah, blah, blah. Let me know if you find out!

When we first started our Employee Pet Photo Competition, we planned to crown just one winner… but then Bandit ran away with the Facebook votes! 😂 With such an incredible lead, our residents’ votes wouldn’t have had much of an impact, so we decided to add a special Residents’ Choice Award.
