Red isn’t just a color—it’s a call to action. 🔺

As women committed to service and advocacy, we stand in the gap for heart health awareness, because Black women are disproportionately affected by heart disease. Today, we wear red for our sisters, our families, and our future.

This , we reflect on the vision of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who established Negro History Week in 1926 to ensure Black stories were studied, preserved, and honored. For generations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has upheld that mission, recognizing that knowledge of the past informs present advocacy and shapes future leadership. Safeguarding history strengthens our ability to serve with clarity, purpose, and accountability.

Today, as efforts to limit or rewrite Black history persist, our responsibility to protect it remains paramount. Preserving our archives, sharing our stories, and affirming our rightful place in history is more than an act of remembrance, it is active stewardship of our legacy and culture.

We are Anchored in Our Legacy because Black history is American history.

Mississippi Mental Health Centers Lose $9.2M After Federal Grant Cuts

Mississippi mental health organizations say they lost at least $9.2 million after the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) abruptly terminated mental health and addiction grants nationwide this week.

Four of Mississippi’s 12 community mental health centers were hit, losing $8.7 million, including $3.7 million from Communicare in North Mississippi. The cuts mainly affect child mental health services, addiction prevention, overdose prevention efforts, and access to naloxone, and could lead to staff reductions and program closures.

Statewide, hundreds of grants worth about $2 billion were cut nationally, many going to nonprofit providers. Mississippi’s Department of Mental Health also lost $440,000 meant to help law enforcement respond to mental health crises.

Mental health leaders say the cuts threaten care for people regardless of their ability to pay and could severely reduce services in schools and communities. Lawmakers from both parties called the news devastating but said they are still waiting for details. SAMHSA said the cuts were final and meant to realign priorities, though providers say the funding already addressed those priorities.

Advocates warn the loss could have long-term, life-or-death consequences for Mississippians needing mental health and addiction services.
