As backpacks get packed and schedules fill up, remember that your child may be carrying more than school supplies.
Back-to-school can bring excitement, but it can also bring anxiety, stress, social pressure, and big emotions. Your child may not always have the words to tell you what they’re feeling.
This year, try to make space for the conversation—not just about homework and grades, but about how they’re doing.
💬 Ask, “How are you feeling about going back?”
👂 Listen without immediately trying to fix it.
🫶 Remind them that struggling doesn’t mean they’re failing.
🌱 Notice changes in mood, sleep, friendships, or behavior.
🤍 Let them know they can come to you, even when things feel hard.
And parents, give yourself some grace, too. You don’t have to have all the answers. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is:
“I’m here. We’ll figure this out together.”
