Mrs. Barbara Ailene Waldrep Taylor, 94, of Barnesville, widow of Merritt Sykes Taylor, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026, at her home.
Born in Gainesville, June 13, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Carter Terrell “C.T.” Waldrep and Ruby Roberts Waldrep. Mrs. Taylor retired after over thirty-five years of service from Red Apple where she was manager. She loved working in her yard and was proud to have received “Yard of the Month” in June 2025 from the Barnesville Garden Club.
Mrs. Taylor was a long-time member of Rock Springs Church and enjoyed Thrive on Wednesday nights until her health declined.
In addition to her parents and second husband, she was also preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Lee Hartwell Merritt.
Survivors include her son, Steven Merritt and wife Jackie of Meansville; daughter, Vickie Sharpton and husband Jeff of Barnesville; grandchildren who affectionately called her Hamma, Justin Sharpton and wife Brandy of Milner, Jason Sharpton and wife Tonya also of Milner, Christopher Merritt of Meansville, Lee Merritt and wife Shaylee of Barnesville and Lacey Merritt and Skylar Hux of Barnesville; great grandchildren, Logan Sharpton and wife Ally of Barnesville, Lance Sharpton and wife Katlyn of Jackson, Kaley Sharpton of Milner, Anslee Sharpton also of Milner and Brianna Johnson and husband Jarel of Athens, Elena Martin of Barnesville and Colton Martin also of Barnesville; and great-great...
