Some jobs are about what you do.

Healthcare has always felt a little different to me because it's also about how you make people feel while you're doing it.

To everyone spending their days caring for, comforting, supporting, teaching, listening or simply showing up for others — your work matters.

Wishing all of our healthcare friends, caregivers and community partners a safe and Happy Labor Day!

I have been asked this week by several families, "What happens during the first hospice visit?"

For many families, the unknown can be one of the hardest parts of considering hospice.

Will medications change?
Who orders the equipment?
Who do we call if something happens in the middle of the night?
What happens next?

The first visit is about getting to know the patient and family, understanding what matters most to them, and putting a plan in place to keep them as comfortable and supported as possible.

Hospice isn't about taking care away. It's about bringing more support in.

If you have questions about hospice or aren't sure whether someone may qualify, I'm always happy to help you start the conversation.

Case Managers, Social Workers & Discharge Planners—sometimes the discharge plan changes because the patient’s condition changes.

If you’re caring for a patient with a terminal illness and symptoms that cannot be effectively managed in their current setting, inpatient hospice may be an option.

Not sure if they meet inpatient criteria? Let us review the clinical picture with you.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day.

Grief is one of those things you really don’t understand until you’ve lived it.

When I lost my dad in 2022, I experienced grief on a level I had never known before. And one thing I learned very quickly is that there is no timeline for it. Life keeps moving, people go back to their routines, but you don’t suddenly stop missing someone just because time has passed.

Some days are good. Some days something as simple as a song, a smell, a memory, or a date on the calendar can bring it all right back.
So today, check on the person who lost someone — even if it’s been years. Say their loved one’s name. Let them tell the story again. You don’t have to have the right words or try to fix anything. Sometimes just knowing someone remembers means more than you realize.
And if you’re the one grieving, give yourself grace. There is no “right” way to do this.

Grief is simply love with nowhere to go.

Today's passing of Dolly Parton has so many people reflecting on a life that touched generations.

It also reminds me of something I often see in hospice:

A person's final chapter does NOT define their story. Their LIFE does.

Hospice is about protecting comfort and dignity while giving families the space to simply be family — to talk, laugh, remember, hold hands, play favorite music and celebrate the person they love.

That is one of the reasons I am so proud to serve as a Nurse Liaison with Eternal Hope Hospice.

Today we remember Dolly for the music, the laughter, the generosity and the love she gave so freely. What a legacy.
