Did you know?

April Fools’ Day has been around for centuries, but its exact origin isn’t completely certain. Historians think it likely started in 16th-century Europe.

One popular theory involves a calendar change in 1582 when Gregorian calendar reform was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII. Before this, many Europeans celebrated the New Year around late March to April 1. When the new calendar moved New Year’s Day to January 1, some people either didn’t hear about the change or refused to follow it.

People began mocking those who still celebrated in early April, playing tricks on them and calling them “April fools.”
