They were preparing for a several-thousand-dollar repair.

A dental office we hadn't worked with before noticed they were losing oxygen and contacted their usual equipment service provider. Over the phone, they were told they likely needed a several-thousand-dollar replacement part.

Before moving forward, they called North Star.

We were able to get a technician to the office quickly to take a look. By the time we arrived, their oxygen tanks had emptied, so once the tanks were refilled, we returned to test the system and find out what was actually happening.

The expensive part wasn't the problem.

We found that the flowmeter had been left on and the system needed new check valves. We replaced the valves, tested the system, and got everything functioning as it should again—for considerably less than the repair they had been expecting.

Sometimes good service isn't about replacing the most expensive part. It's about showing up, finding the actual problem, and getting it fixed.

The office didn't even know there was a problem.

During annual maintenance, we found that one of the three heads on this dental air compressor had stopped running. The other two were keeping up, so the office hadn't experienced any interruption at all.

We originally installed this compressor in 2012. After 14 years of service, the system is now obsolete and parts are no longer available, so this time replacement made more sense than repair.

We helped the practice choose a properly sized Tech West Elite oil-less compressor, giving them the capacity they need today and a system built for the years ahead.

This is why we believe in looking after equipment for the long haul. The right equipment. Regular maintenance. Problems caught early. And good guidance when it's finally time for something new.

Fourteen years later, we're grateful to still be helping this practice with what comes next.

Equipment still working doesn't always mean repairing it is the best investment.

And an expensive repair doesn't automatically mean it's time to replace it.

Age, parts availability, reliability, repair history, workflow and the cost of downtime can all change the answer.

That's why we don't believe every service call should end with the same recommendation.

Sometimes, repair it. Sometimes, replace it. Sometimes, keep it running and start planning for what's next. Our job is to help you understand the options so you can make the decision that's right for your practice.

At North Star, we're always looking for ways to make working with us a little easier.

One area we've been focused on is our service calls.

Every repair is different, so some jobs will naturally take more time than others. But we've been working to simplify how we bill for service—making pricing easier to understand, more consistent, and as fair as possible.

It's one more step toward making every interaction with North Star a little clearer.

Sometimes the smallest components create the biggest frustrations.

This worn syringe cartridge had begun sticking, allowing water to leak during use. It's a simple repair—but one that can make a noticeable difference in the operatory.

Not every service call involves replacing major equipment. Sometimes it's recognizing a small problem early and fixing it before it becomes a bigger inconvenience.

That's the kind of work we do every day.

Thinking about adding sedation to your practice?

Whether you're expanding into implants, oral surgery, or other procedures, planning for sedation involves much more than selecting equipment.

Medical gas systems, utilities, workflow, compliance, and future growth all deserve careful consideration before installation begins.

Our free planning guide walks through the questions we encourage practices to ask early in the process—helping projects move more smoothly from planning to installation.

Still seeing patients.

A recent practice experienced a compressor failure after one compressor head ran low on oil. Our team delivered a loaner compressor to keep the office running while a replacement system was installed.

Equipment problems happen. The goal isn't just fixing them—it's minimizing the disruption to your patients, your schedule, and your team. That's why we keep loaner equipment available and work to get practices back up and running as quickly as possible.

An office recently called about an older dental light with paint that was flaking from years of cleaning and disinfectant use.

The light itself was still working well. The concern was appearance, cleanliness, and loose paint in the treatment area. Fortunately, we still had replacement parts available.

A relatively simple repair gave the light a much cleaner appearance and helped extend the life of equipment that was otherwise serving the office well.

Not every situation calls for replacement. Sometimes the best solution is helping good equipment continue doing its job.

Your vacuum system rarely quits without warning.

-Reduced suction.
-Strange noises.

Small changes often become expensive repairs if they're ignored.

That's why we created our Dental Vacuum System Troubleshooting Guide—a free resource to help you recognize common issues, understand what they might mean, and know when it's time to give us a call.

Sometimes the solution is simple.

Sometimes catching the problem early prevents much bigger downtime later.
