Christine LaComb has worked in healthcare as a nurse

for over 20 years and as a certified advanced practice nurse practitioner since 2005. She completed her Masters of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2005 and has worked as a Family Nurse Practioner in family practice, cardiology, and infectious disease. LaComb is credentialed through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Certified Family Nurse Practioner. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practioners, as well as, The Texas Nurse Practioners Organization. LaComb was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

🩷 TESTOSTERONE IN WOMEN: THERE’S MORE TO THE STORY!!!!

For years, testosterone therapy in women has largely been discussed in the context of libido and sexual health. But testosterone is a hormone that plays a role throughout the body, and we’re continuing to learn more about what it may mean for women as we age.

A recent study looked at 279 women who were already using standard hormone replacement therapy and subsequently added testosterone. Researchers observed improvements in several areas, including measures related to:

✨ Cardiovascular health
✨ Metabolic health
✨ Musculoskeletal health
✨ Sexual health

Now, an important distinction: this was a retrospective study without a control group, so we cannot say that testosterone caused these improvements. More research is needed before we can draw firm conclusions.

✔️ What we do know is that women naturally produce testosterone, testosterone levels change as we age, and there is still so much we need to understand about maintaining healthy, physiologic hormone levels throughout a woman’s lifespan.

The conversation around women’s hormones is evolving—and we think that’s a GOOD thing. 💗

Rather than assuming testosterone is only about libido, we should continue asking questions, looking at the evidence, and having individualized conversations about hormones.
