Mama-Centric Doula

Mama-Centric Doula My name is Zaire. I would be honored to have the privilege of supporting you. My name is Zaire B.H. Bullock. I am currently expecting a baby girl due July 2021.

I am a DONA International-certified birth doula. It is my belief that birth is a transformative experience for women and that the experiences in labor are directly correlated to their attitudes towards motherhood and future pregnancies. Birth is a natural and beautifully transformative event, and, with exceptions noted, mothers have the abilities to birth their babies how they choose as long as the

y have the support and resources they need. Women are uniquely designed to birth babies well in most cases, surrounded by supportive, active participants of their choosing in an environment in which they feel comfortable. Knowing the stages before, during and after birth are vital to achieving mom’s preferred birth experience. As a doula, my job is to help protect precious birth memories by providing evidence-based education, resources, and emotional support for mothers, families, and birthing partners. I encourage birth partners to be active participants in the birth experience and I help guide them to be physically and emotionally supportive during the process as I do not replace a birthing partner. I look forward to assisting you throughout your pregnancy, labor, and birth. About Me: I am an educator who has taught elementary school in brick and mortar locations and I have also taught online for a university and a private company. I have obtained a master’s degree in Education (Teaching and Learning). When I am not assisting my husband with our family business, I am immersed in seeking connections to the local birth community. I believe that my passion for teaching and for nurturing others is translated throughout my work and my passion for being a doula. I am a mother of a 7 year old son old son who was delivered in a hospital setting, with midwives. My wish is to support mothers and families in having the birth of their choice. No matter your decision to birth your baby, it is my position as doula that I will provide information and resources regarding birthing options to help support your decision in making informed choices for YOUR family. I hope to be a champion for encouraging evidence-based birth practices. I am available for emotional and physical support throughout the birth process, whether it be un-medicated, medicated, Cesarean, in-hospital or out-of-hospital. Every mother should feel empowered about her choices throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I am interested and experienced in natural and medicated births, breastfeeding support and postpartum support.

MAGICAL VERNIX

If you have been following us for a while, you know we love to talk about this powerful baby butter.

✨ ✨ ✨

"Vernix: Your baby is not born dirty!

For those expecting to have a baby born like in the movies, all clean, fresh, & doll like. Here are some fun facts about vernix for you...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. White sticky waxy stuff that coats your baby whilst inside the womb. It is really sticky but smooth & often after holding a baby with vernix on I’ll notice a patch of the stuff on my uniform

2. It protects your baby’s skin in the womb from looking all pruney, like how your fingers & toes get when you’ve been in the bath too long.

3. Overdue babies are less likely to have as much vernix so they can look a bit prune-like on their hands & feet (like they have been in the bath too long 😉!)

4. It has antibacterial & moisturizing properties so, as tempting as it may be, don’t wipe it off. Let your baby’s skin absorb this in the first few hours/days of life 🙂 It will help their skin adapt to life outside the womb.

5. You may still notice it in baby’s creases (under armpits & groin area) several days later."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Interventions in maternity care should be the exception, not the gold standard.

Let’s focus on-

✿ Letting labor start on its own
✿ Movement and positioning
✿ Letting mom eat and drink as desired during labor
✿ Labor support (family, doula etc..)
✿ Spontaneous pushing in non-supine (on back) positions
✿ Keeping mother and baby together immediately after birth

And saving interventions for when they are medically indicated.

The routine use of intravenous fluids, restrictions on eating and drinking, continuous electronic fetal monitoring, epidural analgesia, and augmentation of labor characterize most U.S. births. These interventions disturb the normal physiology of labor and birth and restrict women’s ability to cope with labor, and can lead to a cascade of other interventions and ultimately increasing risk for mothers and babies.

*** I encourage you to do your own research, open the line of communication with your provider, and know why and when interventions might be needed. Most importantly be your own advocate***

Mothers and babies sleeping together is a normal, healthy, shared instinct as old as humankind. But certain situations can make this normal behavior unsafe. Let’s see what it takes to avoid those situations so you can enjoy being with your baby awake or asleep.
