Sixteen months into building Golden Forge, the ideas that brought me here are being tested every day.

As technology expands what we can do, what sustains our human capacity to endure, recover, exercise judgment, connect, and contribute?

I'm particularly interested in people who've spent years carrying difficult missions. They still have goals of their own—some demanding, some deeply personal. What helps them continue growing and living fully, on their own terms?

Contribution over consumption.

Some of the most important ways of living are older than the tools we use today. On 163 acres in the Colorado Rockies, that means growing and harvesting food, repairing what breaks, caring for the land and one another, and learning from people who know things I don't.

The reality is often humbling. Weather disrupts plans. Equipment fails. Requirements change. Some days my own body doesn't cooperate. Progress means adapting, asking for help, and sometimes knowing when to stop.

The people who come here bring their own experiences, knowledge, and ambitions. They shape this place and continue to challenge my assumptions about what matters.

I'm learning how much depends on participation, responsibility, connection, and attention to the world around us. And how much cannot be rushed or engineered.

There's room for ambition and grief, effort and stillness. Some things simply take time.

Funny how the stories we carry about old chapters of life can leave out some of the best parts—the people.

One of the unexpected gifts of building Golden Forge has been reconnecting with old friends and making new ones along the way.

People showing up with their time, skills, ideas, and friendship. Each helping shape what this place is becoming.

A lot still to build. So much to be grateful for. You know who you are. Thank you.

Eight seconds of fall at 8,600 feet.

Our first greens, shared after morning training and recovery. A golden eagle sat quietly in the pine above us, watching for his own harvest.

We prepped the land. Built the greenhouse, beds and self-wicking system. Mixed the soil. Planted. Tended. Harvested.

Health is in how we live. What we eat. How we move. What we contribute. What we allow to consume our attention.

Our community, caring for the land and each other.

This past year was a test. We kept programming small and disciplined on purpose. Built slow. Kept numbers limited. Quality over quantity. Contribution over consumption. Prove the model before we scale it.

This summer, we got our answer.

We welcomed veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and their families from across Colorado and beyond.

Over the past few months, Golden Forge hosted:

- Two Valor Archery Challenges. One arrow at a time. Focus, confidence, community, built through shared challenge.
- Two Backcountry Horsemanship courses. Mission. Skill. Faith. Tribe. Grit.
- One Wilderness Medicine course. Skills to stay calm, lead well, and care for others when it matters most.
- One Pack & Purpose. Three days. Horses, land, and honest work. Faith and grit — the real kind.

Golden Forge sits on our ranch. It's becoming part of Guffey. Every act of kindness, every partnership, every person who shows up helps build a place where those who have spent their lives serving others reconnect with purpose, build meaningful relationships, and leave stronger than they arrived.

None of this happens without this community. People showed up. Volunteered. Donated materials. Opened their homes and businesses. Shared meals. Lent a hand. Believed in what we're building here.

Thank you, Guffey. We're just getting started.
