We are fortunate here at Our Lady of Mercy to have warm neighbors and a caring community, like the folks at the Capital District Chapter of the Ford Model T Club of America, who brought 10 beautiful antique cars to show our residents over the weekend. The vehicles date back to 1914 through 1927. Residents got to go outdoors to see the cars up close and hear all about them from their owners. One even brought their furry friend named Olive along. Our sincere appreciation to the club and all the car owners who made the fun day possible for our residents!

It was a "Day at the Races" like no other as Our Lady of Mercy transformed one of our parking lots into the Saratoga Race Track Thursday! Our races featured our residents as the jockeys, with each riding a cleverly named horse of their own (blowup). There were five races with six residents per race. A roll of the dice determined how many steps each resident could take on their horse! (Note: A staff member accompanied each resident to ensure safety. No real horses were harmed in the running of our races.)

Each resident who competed received a medal with a horse on it. Refreshments were served, including chocolate ice cream, fresh popped popcorn, flavored lemonades, and a special Saratoga Sunrise drink. A big shoutout to our activities and dining staff, CNA's, new graduates, pharmacy students, our executive assistant, all the family members, and everyone who contributed to make the day such a memorable one!

They say he is "a positive light" who walks around with a smile and a 'yes, I'm willing to help' attitude. Meet Nate Palmer, LPN, here at Our Lady of Mercy, who has been named one of our SPIRIT Award winners. Nate arrives early for his shifts on our Rosary Unit and is always willing to stay late to complete his paperwork and tie up any loose ends. He demonstrates a strong spirit of teamwork, supporting others with enthusiasm, answering call lights, passing meds, addressing problems big and small, and all the while motivating others to complete tasks. He is committed to both the residents and other staff members. While giving 100 percent of himself on the job, Nate is also pursuing his RN degree. Congratulations, Nate!

Our Lady of Mercy is proud of its dedicated staff, like Jayvan Roberts, certified nursing assistant, who has been named a winner of our SPIRIT Awards! Jayvan works in our Guadalupe Memory Unit but is always happy to help out on other units wherever he is needed. He often takes the initiative, leading and encouraging his team members in assignments and assuring everyone that they can rely on each other for help. "I really want everyone on this unit to work together as a team and know that they just need to ask for help and they will get it," he says. Jayvan comes to work happy, positive, and ready to work. He receives compliments regularly from oriented residents in other units where he works. Jayvan shows a positive impact to others and is inspiring to all! Congratulations, Jayvan!

Here at Our Lady of Mercy, our residents just LOVE popcorn... so much so they don't need a movie playing to enjoy it! So once a week, our activities team makes bags and bags of the snack and loads them on a cart to take around the building. We pass the bags out to both residents and staff while playing funny songs about popcorn to make everyone smile! Word is that our residents really look forward to seeing the popcorn cart come around! Please join Our Lady of Mercy as we celebrate Cydney Rogers, unit secretary for our nursing administration, who has been named one of our SPIRIT Award winners! Cydney is praised for always being positive and supportive of her co-workers. She also has a way with the residents, making them feel comfortable, like old friends, and chatting with them as she helps out at mealtimes. Cydney often goes throughout the building, assisting at our front desk, organizing units, and volunteering to help improve processes for other departments. She is an inspiration to others. Congratulations, Cydney!

ALOHA, everyone! It's a beautiful day for a barbecue so that's just what we did here at Our Lady of Mercy. We threw our first BBQ of the season which took us to Hawaii with colorful flower leis and cold delicious fruit punch. The menu today: yummy chicken kabobs, fresh corn on the cob, macaroni salad, carrots, and dessert cups! But perhaps the best part of it all... the smiles from our residents! Cheers to a great summer!

"Mary, Mary, quite contrary. How does your garden grow?" So goes the famous nursery rhyme. Here at Our Lady of Mercy, veggies, herbs, and flowers are growing thanks to the amazing Guilderland Garden Club which dropped by today to help our residents arrange freshcut blooms, w**d the garden, and plant a variety of donated seeds and seedlings. They include dill, basil, parsley, lettuce, tomatoes, daisies, and primrose lilies. Shoutout to Maureen McNamara and the entire group of incredible volunteers for a wonderful day outdoors for our residents! We can't wait for everything to bloom and show you the beautiful fruits (and veggies) of our labor! πŸŒΈπŸ…πŸͺ΄
