For those of you wanting a Smokey update, he had surgery today. I guess a version of a facelift lol. Evidently he must’ve had some trauma to his left eye lid, which was causing some pupil scarring so the vet pulled down the lower eyelid just a little bit so that it wasn’t irritating the eyeball. Came through it OK and we’ll have to go back in a couple weeks to get the stitches out. Our feral friend is settling into the Jacobs’ household, but getting acclimated very, very slowly.

We made it back safely and I’m seeing patients in the office today. Amelia made the game tying assist and almost made a game winning goal but the goalie had a nice save. They play Auburn Sunday. It could be rough…

Jacksonville State Women's Soccer home opener is tomorrow night. Me being me, I'll be driving up and back tomorrow afternoon/evening. That being said, I'll be seeing patients tomorrow morning until 11 AM and there are a few spots left; closed in the PM. Back to normal hours on Thursday (heavily caffeinated though). Go Gamecocks!

After spending a few years as a Biomedical Engineer at Biosense Webster (J&J), where she ran 3D cardiac imaging while cardiologists performed ablations, my daughter Anna has decided to resign and pursue chiropractic school. What can I say? It's in our blood. She’ll be attending school in California and plans to open a pediatric chiropractic practice there.

I’m flying out Thursday to tour the school and visit friends. To top it off, our youngest has a college pre-season soccer game Wednesday night, so I’ll only be working a half-day on Wednesday.

Our wonderful massage therapist, Lauren, will be available through Thursday.

I hope you all are paying attention to Fauci repeatedly invoking the Fifth Amendment in today’s Senate hearing. Many of us were censored and attacked for raising concerns and trying to protect our families during the pandemic.

Green Beret Captain John Frankman was pressured out of his leadership role in the special forces after refusing the COVID-19 vaccine for himself and his squad, citing religious and moral objections to its development and concerns about the rushed rollout. He made the right call. We now know of spike protein persistence and related health issues in people. We need representatives who can make the tough call, are incorruptible and committed to real accountability for government overreach and policy failures during this period.

His opponent, Jimmy Patronis, isn’t even from our area — he’s from Panama City Beach. While serving as CFO, he presided over Florida’s property insurance crisis, with tens of thousands of homeowner complaints receiving little real action. He’s faced repeated pay-to-play allegations and only now decided to show up here just before re-election. We deserve better. Patronis needs to go.

I am a Catholic first and foremost, proud American, ex-Special Forces Green Beret. I am fighting for the future of America.

I encourage everyone to contact your state representatives and members of Congress about an important Medicare issue affecting seniors nationwide. Please share this widely.

As a Medicare provider, I regularly have to explain to elderly patients that while Medicare requires a chiropractic examination and X-rays before performing an adjustment, it refuses to pay for them. Medicare only covers 80% of its allowed amount for the spinal adjustment itself. Exams, X-rays, and any therapies are not covered in a chiropractor’s office.

This outdated policy leaves seniors paying significant out-of-pocket costs for necessary diagnostic services. If you’d like to see Medicare coverage expanded to include exams, diagnostic imaging, and therapies performed by chiropractors, please take action today by reaching out to your elected officials and share with everyone you know!

H.R. 539, The Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act, was reintroduced by Reps. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and John Larson (D-Conn.) on January 16. 2025.  H.R. 539 would allow Medicare beneficiaries access to the chiropractic profession’s...

Welp, just found out I have cancer… though I’m mostly using that as an attention-getter. I’ve always said the more maladies I collect, the better doctor I become. “Physician, heal thyself” — and that’s exactly what I plan to do.

To make my wife happy, I went to the dermatologist for a full skin check. A biopsy revealed a superficial basal cell carcinoma (BCC) near my clavicle. I initially scheduled removal, but as usual, I started researching.

I’ve been experimenting with DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) lately, and I had already been applying a DMSO/Aloe Vera mix to the spot because I knew something wasn’t right. It seemed to help, but I hadn’t dialed in the best protocol yet.

I came across a research study on a solution of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) dissolved in DMSO for treating BCC. It compared this topical treatment (applied twice daily) to the common prescription cream imiquimod (Aldara). The results: The DMSO + vitamin C solution achieved 86.7% complete resolution after 8 weeks, compared to 57.1% for imiquimod. Even extending imiquimod to 12 weeks only reached 78.6%. The DMSO/vitamin C approach was not only faster and more effective but also had far fewer side effects.

My sister-in-law recently had a BCC on her face and went through Mohs surgery — the standard dermatology route. I feel a bit guilty for not finding this research sooner. Given that these tumors are slow-growing and rarely metastasize, I believe trying the DMSO + ascorbic acid approach first would have been worth it.

If I don’t get full resolution with the DMSO/AA solution, I’ll try Curaderm next. It contains Solasodine Glycosides (BEC) extracted from eggplant. This topical approach has been used since the 1800s. It can cause some irritation (thanks to the salicylic acid), and the area needs to stay covered, but it’s an intriguing option for not only BCC but squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and sun spots as well. Treatment should NOT be tried on moles or melanoma. It’s been discussed by Dr. Oz and Dr. Mercola, though a 20ml tube runs about $200. DMSO + vitamin C is far more affordable.

I’ll keep you all updated on how it goes!
