Sometimes the hardest decisions are also the right ones.
After a great deal of reflection, I decided to close Gulf Breeze Speech and Language this summer. I accepted a full-time position with a local hospital's outpatient pediatric clinic. At this time, I am no longer providing speech therapy services for adults.
I'm deeply grateful for every patient, caregiver, physician, and colleague who supported this practice over the years.
I don't know whether this business will return someday. If it does, it will likely be in a completely different form, one that is centered on education, community, and resources rather than traditional speech therapy or insurance-based services. I have seen first-hand where our neighbors with Aphasia, voice disorders, traumatic brain injuries, neurodegenerative disorders, and atypical dysphagia cases (such as cancer-related dysphagia, dysphagia related to connective tissue disorders, autoimmune conditions, and dysphagia secondary to breathing or GI disorders) have felt underserved and alone.
As I find more bandwidth, I will begin updating this page and my website with resources.
For now, I'm closing this chapter with a full heart and a tremendous amount of gratitude.
Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey.
