Hello Everyone! We need parents/ caregivers of children 3-10 who would like to learn the skills that play therapists use! Building an even stronger bond with your child(ren)! Facilitating cooperation, limit setting, and learning about the language of play are some of the many things you can lear about! Please use the QR code to submit an interest form! Limited capacity- first come first serve! The curriculum is based on Landreth & Bratton CPRT model! Classes will meet online (zoom) on Thursdays 12:30-1:30 - only the parent9s) attend. Grandparents, aunts and uncles are also welcome!!

When children experience situations that make them feel unsafe or in danger, they will try to control aspects of their lives, which they are able to. Control is a common theme that is demonstrated in the play of children attending Play Therapy.

This might be what food they eat, what work they do, how they play with others, to name a few. This control enables them to feel safe but can feel difficult or defiant to those adults around them.

In the Play Therapy relationship, the adult gives control of what and how to play to the child, creating a sense of safety. The only thing the child sees the adult control is any boundaries that need to be in place to keep the child and therapist safe.

Mark your calendars for the Spring 2024 MSAPT Conference in Oxford, MS. We will have two exciting days of training on March 1-2 led by Dr. Peggy Ceballos from The University of North Texas.

- Friday, March 1, 2024: "The Use of Expressive Art Media in the Playroom" 3 hours of CEs
- Saturday, March 2, 2024: Enhancing Play Therapists' Multicultural Awareness: Forming Strong Therapeutic Alliances with Children and Parents" 6 hours of CEs.

Participants will receive APT and NBCC CEs through The Institute for Continuing Education.

Co-regulation doesn’t have involve hugging. Some kids won’t calm when held but doesn’t mean that you can’t co-regulate. Being close and calm will still impact your child’s nervous system and eventually calm too. When you label the feeling for your child rather than reacting to the behaviour, they feel heard and understood. When they are ready you can work it out together
