Veneer or crown? They can look very similar when you smile... but they are not interchangeable.

A veneer covers the front surface of a tooth. It may be considered when the tooth is healthy, but you want to improve its color, shape, or small gaps.

A crown covers the whole tooth. It may be recommended when a tooth is cracked, weakened, heavily filled, or needs more support.

So, which one is right for you?

You cannot decide from appearance alone. An exam helps reveal how much healthy tooth remains, whether there are cracks or large fillings, and how your bite affects that tooth every day.

Sometimes the answer is a veneer. Sometimes it is a crown. Sometimes it is neither.

That minty feeling is nice. But if bad breath keeps coming back, mouthwash may only be covering the clue.

And no, this is not something to feel embarrassed about. Your mouth may simply be trying to tell you something.

Bleeding gums, plaque buildup, and dry mouth can all contribute to ongoing bad breath. The goal is not to guess the cause. It is to understand what is actually going on.

When should you mention recurring bad breath to your dentist?

Here’s something patients are always surprised to hear…
Most cracked teeth don’t happen because of one big accident.
They happen little by little.
Chewing ice.
Crunching hard candy.
Grinding your teeth while you sleep.
Even years of normal wear can slowly weaken a tooth.
Then one day…
You bite into something soft and suddenly feel a sharp pain.

No metal brackets.

This might be why…
If your mouth feels dry every summer, it’s probably not just the heat.
When it’s hot outside, your body loses more water. Add coffee, iced drinks, long days in the sun, or blasting the AC, and your mouth can dry out faster than you realize.
Saliva does a lot more than keep your mouth comfortable.
It helps wash away bacteria, protects your teeth, and lowers your risk of cavities.
So when there’s less saliva, your mouth has to work a little harder.
The easiest fix?
Keep water nearby, sip throughout the day, and don’t ignore a dry mouth if it sticks around.
Sometimes a small change in your routine can make a big difference for your smile.

“I brush really well, so I don’t need to floss.”
If only it worked that way.
Your toothbrush does a great job cleaning the front, back, and top of your teeth.
But it can’t squeeze into the tiny spaces where two teeth touch.
That’s where floss comes in.
It removes food and plaque your toothbrush simply can’t reach, helping lower your risk of cavities, bad breath, and gum disease.
The best part?
It only takes about a minute or two each day.
Think of brushing as washing your hands.
Flossing is cleaning between your fingers.
You really need both.
