I realized something today as I sat wondering where my phone was while watching tv and staring at my computer. I don't know who remembers the tidbits that were supposed to be helpful and taught us how to multitask. Advising us to handle business on the phone while standing in line. Sitting watching tv? Use your computer to get work done. Driving down the road? Use your cellphone to handle important calls.
In reality, it taught us to be distracted. Can you recall what tv show you watched while you were busy doing anything but watching the tv. Maybe what your kids said or needed you to hear while you were handling a phone call or distracted paying bills or balancing your accounts?
Those tips taught us to be ADHD in a way. It taught our children that the phone and electronics in excess were necessary to live life. Am I watching tv while typing? Funny enough, yes. My excuse? I am ADHD. So for me, it helps me focus because of my noise in my head, but what if it just overloads me?
So stop multitasking. Stop taking on so much you have to multitask. Learn to say no. Learn that your children are the single most important attribute that you have. Learn that it can wait.
We have so many people charging to help us relax. I am going to do it for free. Stop. That's it. Just stop. Focus or rather refocus on what matters. Do you need to work to pay for things? Of course you do. Do you need, I mean need, so many things? These things are most likely what is between you and the life you think you are creating.
We have tvs in every room. Handheld devices from telelphones to video games, tablets and smaller and smaller computers to include those fancy cell phones. We have shorter and shorter videos creating a drive for more and more consumption. Shorter and shorter fuses for waiting. We are a soundbite society.
So stop and slow down. Stop. Slow down. One thing at a time.
Call now to connect with business.
