PCOS has a new name.

It's now called PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). Why the change?

Because this condition affects more than just the ovaries.

✔ Hormones

✔ Metabolism

✔ Menstrual cycles

✔ Fertility

✔ Overall health

The new name better reflects what many women have known all along: PCOS impacts the whole body, not just one part of it.

If you're experiencing symptoms or have questions about your reproductive health, don't navigate it alone.

Strength isn't just showing up for work, providing for your family, or pushing through tough days.

Sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is take care of yourself.

Many health conditions don't show symptoms right away. That's why regular checkups matter. Checkups can help catch potential issues early and keep you healthy for the people who count on you.

This Men's Health Month, make yourself a priority.

Hurricane season starts long before the first storm appears on the radar.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when severe weather threatens our community.

📦 Build a Hurricane Kit
Stock enough water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and other essentials to support your household for at least two weeks.

📄 Protect Important Documents
Store insurance policies, identification, medical information, and other important records in a waterproof container or secure digital location.

🗺️ Know Your Evacuation Route
Don't wait until a storm is approaching to decide where you'll go. Plan your route ahead of time and discuss it with your family.

📱 Stay Informed
Monitor trusted weather sources, enable emergency alerts on your phone, and stay up to date with local guidance before, during, and after a storm.

The best time to prepare is before a storm is in the forecast. Take a few minutes today to review your hurricane plan and make sure your family is ready.

Not every health concern needs an emergency room visit. Knowing where to go can help you get care faster and keep emergency rooms available for life-threatening situations.

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are a great option for common minor injuries and illnesses, while severe or life-threatening symptoms should always be treated in the Emergency Department.

Violence against healthcare workers is on the rise nationally and locally. Assault on a healthcare worker is a felony and can result in federal charges, including serious criminal charges.

When incidents occur, we work with our healthcare professionals to report the violence, cooperate fully with law enforcement, pursue every appropriate avenue available for organizations to protect their employees and uphold the law, including appropriate prosecution of offenders. However, sometimes legal outcomes and judicial decisions are ultimately outside the control of the health system.

Memorial remains committed to advocating for stronger protections for healthcare workers and improving policies and processes that support a safe environment for both caregivers and patients.

Violence will not be tolerated in our facilities because everyone deserves to feel safe.

Heart disease isn’t always something that develops later in life. For some adults, it’s something they’ve lived with since birth.

In this week’s Health Corner, Dr. Juan Del Cid Fratti with Memorial’s Southern Mississippi Heart Center talks about adult congenital and structural heart disease, why specialized care matters, and how advances in heart care are helping patients live healthier, fuller lives.

Watch our latest feature with WLOX to learn more about how Memorial is helping bring advanced cardiac care close to home.

While many adults born with heart defects may believe they're "fixed" after childhood, their risk can grow with age.
