💜 COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT | Yvette Ewing

As we approach THE RELEASE: A Women's Empowerment Experience (Register on Eventbrite REQUIRED) this Saturday, I want to take a moment to recognize a phenomenal woman, community leader, and someone I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside through the Lake County Workforce Development Board — Yvette Ewing! She graciously serves as our venue sponsor for this event.

Yvette is the Executive Director of The Community Works, a U.S. Army veteran, certified life coach, and community development leader with more than 36 years of experience.

Her work is about more than programs. It’s about people, possibilities, and creating pathways to opportunity.

Through The Community Works, The Hero Project, and workforce development initiatives, Yvette has dedicated her career to helping individuals and families overcome barriers, develop skills, and move toward greater stability and purpose.

Her impact speaks volumes: more than $10 million in grant funding secured, thousands of volunteers trained, and decades of building collaborative programs that serve communities.

But what I especially appreciate about Yvette is her willingness to give back and make room for others to thrive.

When I shared my vision for The Release, Yvette graciously opened the doors of The Community Works to serve as our venue sponsor. Her generosity is helping create a space where women can come together, share their experiences, encourage one another, and prepare for their next chapter.

As I prepare to transition from Lake County to Dallas, moments like these remind me of the incredible people I’ve been blessed to work alongside throughout my years of community service.

📣 Calling Black Women Leaders in Faith-Based Organizations!

I have the privilege of serving on the dissertation committee of Tamekeyo House-Griffin, a doctoral researcher pursuing her Ph.D. in Business Psychology at The Chicago School.

She is conducting an important study exploring the educational, spiritual, and leadership experiences of Black women serving in Evangelical Christian institutions.

We know that Black women play significant roles in leading, serving, and strengthening our faith communities. This research creates an opportunity for their experiences and perspectives to be heard. ❤️

Who is she looking for?
✅ Black women, age 25+
✅ At least two years of formal leadership experience in an Evangelical Christian institution
✅ Experience in churches, faith-based nonprofits, parachurch organizations, or Christian educational institutions
✅ U.S.-based leadership experience

Participation involves a 60–90-minute interview, with an optional follow-up.

Celebrating Workforce Development Month in Lake County

As September comes to a close, I want to recognize the dedicated professionals of Lake County Workforce Development who carry out this important work every day.

Throughout Workforce Development Month, staff shared their “why”—what brought them to this work, what keeps them committed, and what serving the people and businesses of Lake County means to them. Workforce Development Board members also shared why they choose to support this important work.

This month also brought a special recognition for Jeff Hubert, Business Services Manager, who was named a Workforce Hero by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals. Congratulations, Jeff!

At its heart, workforce development is about people, opportunity, and connection. Thank you to the Workforce Development staff and the many service partners, employers, community organizations, and supporters who help create opportunities throughout Lake County.

Workforce Development Month may be September, but this work happens every day.

Mindful Monday | Reset. Regulate. Show Up Well. 🌿

Before you rush into the week, check in with yourself.

How are you arriving today, mentally, emotionally, and physically?

Sometimes productivity doesn’t require pushing harder. It requires a moment to breathe, regulate, and reset.

A few intentional pauses throughout the workday can help us return with greater clarity, presence, and capacity for what matters.

This Monday, give yourself permission to slow down long enough to show up well.
