This June 5th marks the 45th anniversary of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Actually, on June 5, 1981, a publication of the CDC’s first report on the virus was released. While the anniversary commemorates a devastating history that has claimed 45 million lives globally, it highlights remarkable medical breakthroughs, with modern treatment turning the virus into a highly manageable, chronic condition.

Budgets get reduced and clinics close, but just because prevention programs get cut doesn’t mean that HIV disappears. This is about access, education, consistency, and breaking stigma. We can’t afford to go backward.

Do you know what the 5 C’s of Mental Health are?

Here is a breakdown of the 5 C’s:

1. Connection: Cultivating positive relationships with family, friends, and colleagues to build a support network and reduce loneliness.

2. Compassion (or Caring): Practicing kindness and empathy toward oneself and others to promote a positive self-image and mental resilience.

3. Coping: Developing healthy mechanisms—such as mindfulness or setting boundaries—to manage stress and navigate challenges.

4. Community: Fostering a sense of belonging to a group, which provides a shared purpose and support.

5. Care (or Confidence/Competence): Prioritizing self-care and developing self-confidence to feel capable in managing life’s pressures.

These elements are often used in positive psychology and youth development to foster mental health.
