As we celebrate the 4th of July and mark 250 years of American independence, we also honor the YWCA movement builders who have shaped and helped forge a more just, equitable, and inclusive nation.

Throughout our history, visionary leaders like Dr. Dorothy Irene Height, Rosetta Evelyn Lawson, Grace Hoadley Dodge, and Julia Morgan have transformed the landscape for women, communities of color, and social justice. Their courageous work continues to inspire the ongoing mission of YWCA and the continuation of the United States of America.

YWCA Northern New Jersey proudly gathered for our Annual Meeting and Year in Review, reflecting on a year of meaningful progress, powerful partnerships, and lives transformed across our communities.

From advancing racial healing and supporting survivors of sexual violence, to empowering women through workforce development, entrepreneurship, civic engagement, services for veterans and women reentering the community, girls leadership programs, senior wellness initiatives, and impactful programs for school-age youth, together we continued our mission to eliminate racism and empower women, girls and families.

We are grateful to our staff, volunteers, board members, community partners, donors, and supporters who make this work possible. Your dedication helps create opportunities, inspire change, and build a more equitable future for all.

We are especially excited to welcome our Board Executive Committee members who will begin their leadership roles on July 1:
• President, Janet Hill Smith• 1st Vice President, Marlie Massena• 2nd Vice President, Shawanna Bailey• Secretary, Jennifer Mannino

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our outgoing Executive Committee members—Dr. Christine Thorpe, Michelle Naggier, Janet Hill Smith, Stacey Brown Neval, and Heather Corey—for their years of commitment, leadership, and service to YWCA Northern New Jersey.
A special thank you to our community partners, Parent Matterz and School Scents, for their continued support of our vision and mission. Your partnership helps strengthen our programs and expand our impact throughout Northern New Jersey.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to creating pathways for women and families to thrive while advancing justice, equity, and opportunity across our region.

💙 Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to another year of impact, advocacy, and empowerment!

The excitement of FIFA World Cup 2026 should never come at the expense of someone's safety, boundaries, or consent. Pressure is not permission. Persistence is not consent. Silence is not a yes.

Whether you're attending a match, celebrating with friends, or watching from your favorite venue, everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered to make their own choices.

Let's create a culture where respect is the standard and consent is non-negotiable.

Today, on Women Veterans Day, we proudly honor the trailblazing women who have served in the United States military. This day commemorates the signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, a historic milestone that opened the door for women to serve as permanent members of the Armed Forces. We thank all women veterans for their courage, sacrifice, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our nation.

We are especially proud to recognize two remarkable women veterans on our YWCA Northern Jew Jersey team who continue their service through their work supporting fellow women veterans:

⭐ Liliana Rosario, Operation Sisterhood Equity Initiatives Specialist, whose leadership and commitment through Operation Sisterhood help connect women veterans with resources, support, and opportunities that empower them to thrive.

⭐ Melissa Hernandez], healingSPACE Prevention and Education Coordinator, whose compassionate work supports survivors on their healing journeys while also strengthening the network of care available to women veterans through Operation Sisterhood.

Their dedication reflects the spirit of service that extends far beyond military duty—creating pathways to healing, connection, and empowerment for women veterans throughout our community.

On this Women Veterans Day, we thank Liliana, Melissa, and all women veterans for their sacrifice, strength, leadership, and continued service. Your contributions have made our country stronger and our communities better.

Thank you for your service. Today and every day, we honor you.
