Please join us in congratulating our October Residence Week graduates! 🎉

This group includes new Right at Home owners, an existing owner, and team members from established Right at Home offices. Throughout the week, they came together to learn, collaborate, build connections, and deepen their understanding of the Right at Home system.

One of the most meaningful Residence Week traditions is graduation, where classmates recognize one another and share heartfelt reflections on how their peers shaped their experience. It's always inspiring to see individuals from different backgrounds, roles, and experiences come together to support and learn from one another.

Congratulations to this exceptional class on reaching this milestone. We can't wait to see the impact they'll make as they continue their Right at Home journey. 🩵🧡

Earlier this month, Air Force veteran Ron and Army veteran Clarence traveled to Washington, D.C., on a Queen City Honor Flight, visiting memorials honoring the sacrifices of those who served before them and alongside them.

Right at Home Rock Hill owner and Navy veteran Jim Ryan joined them as one of their guardians on the trip. He was proud to help celebrate this unforgettable experience and two American heroes.

"Ron and Clarence, thank you for your service and for allowing me to share this meaningful moment with you. I am proud to be part of this one last mission!"

Living more than an hour away from an aging parent can bring intense feelings of guilt. However, staying informed, proactive planning, and utilizing local in-community resources can ensure they receive exceptional care from afar.

Here are 4 strategic ways to manage long-distance caregiving effectively:

1. Master the Medical Details: Learn your loved one's health conditions, medication schedules, and daily routines, ensuring you secure proper Healthcare Power of Attorney for medical access.

2. Build a Local Network: Compile a contact list of nearby neighbors, friends, and local relatives who see your loved one regularly to establish an immediate ground support system.

3. Define Everyone's Care Role: Create a shared calendar to divide responsibilities, whether you manage finances online from afar or a local relative handles physical appointments.

4. Research Community Resources: Map out local senior support options early, including free meal deliveries, volunteer visitors, senior transit options, and professional in-home care agencies.

A few weeks ago, members of the Right at Home corporate team had the opportunity to volunteer with The Furniture Project - Omaha, where service took many forms. Some assembled toddler beds, some shopped for families in need, and others helped prepare incoming donations for their next home.

We also had the chance to connect with founder Drew Gerken, who shared the story behind the organization and the ways our missions intersect. His commitment to helping people live with dignity in their homes reflects the same values that inspire the work we do every day. We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside an organization making such a meaningful impact in our community.

In home healthcare, patient autonomy and transparency is essential.

Informed Consent is the cornerstone of ethical care. It guarantees that patients and their families receive clear, comprehensive details regarding care plans, medical risks, alternative options, and outcomes before any treatment begins.

For working adult children managing a parent's care, true informed consent provides peace of mind. It ensures your loved one remains an active, respected decision-maker in their own health journey.

Companion Care vs. Personal Care: What’s the Difference?

Understanding senior care terminology can be confusing for family caregivers. Knowing the core differences between services helps you make the most informed decision for your loved one's independence. Here are 4 key distinctions to help guide your choice:

1. Companion Care Basics: Designed for mostly independent seniors who need socialization, supervision, or light assistance rather than hands-on physical care.

2. Companion Activities: Caregivers focus heavily on social interaction, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errand running, and medication reminders.

3. Personal Care Focus: Offers hands-on physical assistance for seniors facing moderate disabilities or advanced age-related conditions.

4. Personal Care Tasks: Trained professionals assist directly with bathing, dressing, mobility, incontinence care, and more advanced medication management.

Right at Home of Sussex & Warren CountiesWhether your loved one needs simple weekly companionship or daily hands-on personal assistance, we tailor our plans to fit your family's exact needs.

Understanding Hoarding Disorder in SeniorsHoarding is a complex mental health condition that is more common in older adults. It goes far beyond clutter, it creates real risks for seniors trying to age in place safely.

Here are 4 critical facts every family caregiver should know:

1. Health Risks: Excessive clutter increases dust, mold, and pests while making it difficult for seniors to track and take vital medications.

2. Safety Hazards: Blocked pathways and doors create severe fire hazards, increase fall risks, and can even prevent emergency personnel from entering.

3. Brain Chemistry: It is a recognized disorder rooted in genetics and differences in how the brain handles decision-making and emotional regulation.

4. Trauma Triggers: Worsening behaviors are frequently triggered by late-life trauma, such as losing a spouse or facing a sudden health crisis.
