Light up Breast Cancer awareness!

Paris looked very different last night. From 8 p.m. to midnight, the Eiffel Tower swapped its usual golden lighting for pink to launch Octobre Rose, France’s annual breast cancer awareness campaign. The tower has marked the campaign this way every year since 2014, while its famous sparkle still runs for the first five minutes of each hour.

Octobre Rose has a much longer history in France. Estée Lauder Companies France and Marie Claire launched the first French campaign in October 1994 under the name “Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en !” The organization later became the Association Ruban Rose, which continues to fund research and promote awareness and early detection.

And the numbers explain why October still matters. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in France, with an estimated 61,214 new cases a year and around 12,146 deaths, although mortality rates have been falling and survival has improved over time.

It’s one of those nights when the Eiffel Tower is doing more than simply lighting up the Paris skyline. Did you see it glowing pink last night, or have you ever been in Paris during Octobre Rose?
