Success Story Spotlight: Billy Spratley
When Billy arrived at Survival Recovery on September 8, 2025, he was coming home from incarceration and ready for a fresh start. Like many individuals reentering the community, he faced challenges obtaining important documents and accessing resources. Our team worked alongside him to secure his ID, Social Security card, and benefits, helping him build a strong foundation for success.
Since entering the program, Billy has made remarkable progress. He has developed patience, responsibility, and the ability to think through difficult situations before acting. Through hard work and commitment to his recovery, he has learned to prioritize his responsibilities and make healthier decisions.
Billy shared that this is the first place where he truly felt motivated to stay still, stay focused, and remain clean. After attending multiple recovery programs with limited success, he found the support, accountability, and community he needed to thrive.
One of Billy's greatest accomplishments has been rebuilding relationships with his wife and children. He has learned not only to care for himself but also to be a positive influence on those around him.
Just one week after entering the program, Billy secured full-time employment with assistance from staff who helped him build a resume, apply for jobs, and provided transportation. Today, he continues to maintain his employment and has earned the respected role of House Leader, where he helps guide and support other residents on their recovery journeys.
Billy is viewed as a leader both within our home and in the community. His determination, integrity, and commitment to personal growth are an inspiration to everyone around him. We are incredibly proud of the progress he has made and excited to watch him continue building the fulfilling life he deserves.

Meet Lawrence — A Story of Strength, Hope, and Second Chances

When Lawrence walked through the doors of Survival Recovery in late August 2025, he was ready for a change. Like many who come to us, his past was marked by addiction, time in jail, and moments of hopelessness. But Lawrence also came with something powerful — the willingness to try again. From the start, Lawrence made the decision to climb the mountain of recovery, one step at a time, with the support of the Survival team behind him. He came in ready to rebuild not just his life, but also his sense of self-worth. His journey hasn’t been easy, but his determination has never wavered.

In his own words, Lawrence shared:

“Survival is where everyone is given a second chance. They’ll help you obtain your credentials — your ID, Social Security card, and other resources. They’ll help you build a resume, find a job, get to work, and develop a strong recovery network. They help you get back on track and see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

And that light has continued to grow brighter every day. Since joining the program, Lawrence has maintained his sobriety, secured steady employment, and become an active, supportive member of our community. His positive attitude, reliability, and compassion for others make him someone both staff and residents can count on. He has shown that recovery isn’t just about staying clean — it’s about rebuilding your life with integrity, purpose, and gratitude. At Survival Recovery, we believe that everyone deserves a second chance — and Lawrence is living proof of what’s possible when that opportunity is met with effort, faith, and the right support system. His story reminds us all that recovery is not only about surviving, but thriving. Lawrence, we are so proud of you and grateful to walk alongside you on this incredible journey. Your strength and perseverance inspire us all to keep climbing toward the light. 💪

We don’t only Survive, we thrive!

Meet Justin C.!
For just over a year, Justin has been climbing his recovery mountain, and today we are proud to celebrate him as a true Survivor! Although he’s lived throughout the tristate area, Justin found a sense of home with us here in Hagerstown. Since joining us in early June, his progress has been nothing short of inspiring.
“Survival gave me an opportunity,” Justin shared. “They helped me with transportation to work, and now I’m a full-time employee at a company I really enjoy. This program has given me structure, guidance, direction, and camaraderie. I’ve been able to pay off fines and start saving for my future. Kevin has been by my side, offering feedback and helping me find my way.”
Justin now has clear goals for his future. He hopes to continue his education with an interest in psychology, while also learning more about credit and investments. He’s passionate about raising awareness around men’s mental health and is especially proud of the progress he’s made in his own journey.
“I’m learning when to be selfish and when to be selfless,” he said.
Justin has gone above and beyond, putting in the work to become the best version of himself. We couldn’t be prouder of his determination, resilience, and heart. 💙
