Who says taking care of your mental health has to be serious all the time? 🤔💭
At our office, we firmly believe that joy, connection, and a little bit of silliness are essential parts of the wellness puzzle! Laughing together doesn't just pass the time—it actively lowers stress, releases endorphins, and reminds us that we are all in this human experience together. 🧠✨

True recovery is about more than just clinical treatment—it’s about finding a community that helps you set boundaries, make healthier choices, and believe in your worth again. If you or a loved one are seeking a safe space to start over, you don't have to take the path alone.

Let's be completely honest: trying to navigate the behavioral healthcare system can be exhausting.
When you or a loved one is in crisis, you are already overwhelmed with worry. Then, you are suddenly forced to decode confusing terminology, handle paperwork, and figure out the right next steps—all while watching the clock.
If you are currently buried under Google tabs, feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice, and trying to find a safe path forward, please pause and breathe.
You don't have to become an expert overnight. It is okay to feel lost, and it is okay to ask for a map. 🗺️

At Wells House, we believe the path to getting help shouldn't add to your exhaustion. We design our care to meet you exactly where you are. Feel free to message us privately or call our Director of Intake & Admissions at 301.739.7748 ext. 219 OR our Mental Health Scheduling Coordinator at 301.739.7748 ext. 247.

***How long have you worked at the Wells House?***
Since 9/16/2013.

***What inspired you to become an addictions counselor?***
I was inspired to become an addiction counselor because I have a passion for helping people heal, grow, and rediscover hope in their lives. Supporting individuals through recovery and seeing positive change is deeply meaningful to me.

***What do you find most meaningful about your work?***
The most meaningful part of my work is watching clients overcome challenges , rebuild relationships , and regain confidence in themselves . Being part of someone's recovery journey is truly rewarding.

***What is one thing you wish the public understood abut addiction?***
I wish the public understood that addiction is not a weakness-it is a disease that affects people from all walks of life and requires compassion, support , and treatment to overcome.

***What do you love most about working for the Wells House?***
What I love most about working for the Wells House is the caring environment and the opportunity to work alongside a team that is dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve lasting recovery and hope.

Did you know…

• On average 123 people die by su***de each day.
• Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults, teens and young adults live with a mental health condition.
• 64.1% of youth with major depression do not receive any mental health treatment.

💚 Early awareness, open conversation, and access to care saves lives. We want to make mental health visible, valued, and supported. 💚

For this week’s spotlight we have Kristen! Kristen is a relatively (newer) member of our team here at the Wells House, and in her time so far she has went above and beyond! From her outstanding work ethic to her charismatic spirit she is a valued member of our team! Please read about her!

***How long have you worked at the Wells House?***
Only about 7 months, I started in September 2025.

***What was your journey to working in administration?***
I spent almost 10 years working in the veterinary field before transitioning into administration. I kind of fell into the role but quickly realized it was a great fit for me. I’m naturally organized, detail‑oriented, and enjoy communicating with people and working as part of a team. I take pride in being someone others can rely on, and I enjoy helping keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

***What is your role here, and what does a typical day look like for you?***
My role is Administrative Specialist on the Admissions Team. No two days are exactly the same, but my days usually look like submitting initial and concurrent authorizations, discharging auths, and transitioning auths through different levels of care. I handle all auths for both SUD and MH for our Hagerstown and Frederick locations.
I also make sure our counselors have their documentation submitted on time so we can get auths processed smoothly (which I'm sure they LOVE the constant pestering LOL). I spend a lot of my day communicating with the insurance company too, and navigating their evolving requirements because they always keep things interesting...

***What is the best piece of career advice you have received?***
The best career advice I’ve received is to stay open to learning and not be afraid to step into something new, even if it isn’t what you originally planned for yourself. Some of the best opportunities come from being willing to grow and adapt.

***What is the most rewarding part of your job or your proudest professional achievement?***
The most rewarding part of my job is knowing I play an important role in helping patients get the care they need. While I’m not directly providing patient care, I know the work we do behind the scenes is essential. Substance use treatment is incredibly important to me, and it hits close to home. Being part of something that helps people get back on their feet and reminds them that addiction doesn’t define who they are is meaningful to me and makes the work feel purposeful.

***And finally, the MOST important question...what is your favorite lunch take out spot near the office?***
Alekos 2 Go is easily the top pick for a good lunch. That chicken souvlaki platter with the boardwalk fries just hits different.
