🌈 Pride Month & Parental Mental Health🌈

Parenthood is a profound transition for anyone, but LGBTQ+ parents often navigate unique stressors alongside the joys of raising children.

From fertility journeys, adoption processes, and pregnancy experiences, to concerns about acceptance, legal protections, family relationships, and feeling seen within healthcare systems—these experiences can have a significant impact on mental health.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and love of LGBTQ+ parents and families. We also recognize that everyone deserves access to affirming support, compassionate care, and spaces where they can show up fully as themselves.

Whether you’re trying to conceive, expecting a child, adjusting to life with a newborn, raising children, or simply navigating the many transitions of parenthood, your experiences matter.

💛 You deserve support.
💛 You deserve community.
💛 You deserve care that affirms who you are.

To all LGBTQ+ parents, caregivers, and those hoping to become parents—we see you, we celebrate you, and we’re honored to walk alongside you.

Happy Pride Month. 🌈

Hi, Rebecca here 👋 😊

Many of you know me as a therapist, educator, and co-owner of Heart and Soul Social Work. What you may not know is that writing has always been one of the ways I make sense of life, motherhood, grief, joy, and all the moments in between.

I'm excited to share a new creative project: Becoming Vianna.

This page is separate from my therapy work and will be a space for poetry and reflections on motherhood, memory, family, identity, and the quiet beauty hidden in everyday life. The name *Vianna* is inspired by my children's names, but it also represents the ongoing process of becoming—through love, growth, change, and time.

My undergraduate degree is in English, and writing has always been a part of who I am. Finding a way to bring together my love of writing, my passion for social work, and my appreciation for the stories that make us human feels incredibly meaningful.

If you enjoy thoughtful writing, stories of motherhood, and finding meaning in the ordinary, I'd love for you to follow along.

Thank you for supporting both the professional and creative parts of who I am.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We also extend our gratitude to the veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and loved ones who carry the invisible weight of service every day. Military life can bring unique challenges, including exposure to trauma, grief, loss, frequent transitions, and increased risk for mental health concerns such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use struggles.

Seeking support is not a sign of weakness—it is an act of courage.

Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, honor those who have served, and recognize the strength it takes to navigate both visible and invisible wounds.

From Heart and Soul Social Work, LLC, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your resilience. ❤️

☔️ Rainy days can affect more than just our plans—they can affect our minds, too.

If you’ve noticed feeling more tired, unmotivated, foggy, or emotionally “off” during stretches of rainy weather, you’re not imagining it. Reduced sunlight can impact serotonin production, disrupt our body’s natural rhythms, and leave us feeling sluggish or less energized.

The good news? You don’t have to wait for the sun to come out to take care of yourself.

🌿 Open the blinds and seek natural light when possible
🌿 Move your body, even for a few minutes
🌿 Stay connected with supportive people
🌿 Focus on one small, manageable task at a time
🌿 Create cozy rituals that bring comfort
🌿 Practice self-compassion on low-energy days

Remember: productivity is not the measure of your worth. Some seasons call for slowing down, adjusting expectations, and caring for yourself with the same kindness you’d offer a friend.

What helps you get through rainy, gloomy days? Share below—we might inspire someone who needs it today. 💙

✨ The waiting can feel endless. ✨

The waiting between appointments.
The waiting for ovulation.
The waiting for test results, phone calls, embryos, answers, or another cycle.
The waiting after loss.
The waiting while everyone else seems to move forward.

Infertility carries a unique kind of grief — one that is often invisible, isolating, and filled with uncertainty. You do not have to carry that weight alone. 🤍

The Waiting Room: A Fertility Support Circle is a gentle, supportive space for individuals navigating infertility, fertility struggles, trying to conceive, pregnancy loss, IVF, and the emotional exhaustion of living in limbo.

Together, we’ll hold space for the complicated emotions that can come with this journey — hope, grief, anxiety, anger, jealousy, fear, numbness, and everything in between — while building connection and support with others who truly understand.

🌿 FREE monthly support group

Sometimes it’s so hard to slow down, be in the moment mentally and physically, and enjoy the incredible privilege of motherhood 🩷

One day, the bottle will be gone from my hands. Bert and Ernie’s voices won’t echo through the living room anymore.

The little voice asking for her “baba” and dragging over her worn “cozy” blanket will become a memory I ache to revisit.

And yet right now, this is our world.Soft blankets, warm milk, sleepy eyes, Sesame Street playing in the background, and a little girl curled into me like she never wants to leave.

These are the moments I never want to forget. Not the big milestones everyone talks about — but the ordinary magic. The quiet afternoons. The tiny routines. The sacred repetition of being needed.

When motherhood feels heavy and burnout creeps in, I try to slow down long enough to see it differently. To remember that one day I would give anything to sit here again, holding my last baby while she watches Bert and Ernie and asks for her baba.

The years move impossibly fast. But sometimes, if we pause long enough, we can feel time soften for just a moment.
