Colleen Johnston Counseling

Colleen Johnston Counseling "Clinical expertise with a down to earth approach." I assist people in healing from traumatic events; recent or long ago. EMDR, DBT.

I also actively promote the building of skills to gain control over out of control emotions. My page is a forum to share some information about my style of practice, ie. It is also a place to share some more personal touches that I hope to inspire others to "create a life worth living". The beauty and intrigue of nature and having passion for aspects of life (for me, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is one) are ways that I have found to make life more meaningful and enjoyable.

Today's task involved fencing up my flopped goldenrod and milkweed from the heavy rains. They had fallen onto the driveway. As I wrestled the goldenrod to attention, I could smell the strong, honey-esque scent, and hear the disturbed buzzing of bees as I went about my business! They quickly settled back upon the blossoms. 🐝🌼💛💚

I keep thinking about Dolly this morning and marveling at her life. I felt myself slipping into a feeling of comparison, "Have I done enough with MY life?" Then i saw this post and was very encouraged. It's the little things! And I'll keep chasing butterflies and rainbows! You are a very special being, keep being YOU! 🦋🌈

TEN WAYS TO BE MORE DOLLY

1. Chase butterflies and rainbows and remember that success is only success if you make space for the aforementioned chasing.

2. Be so wildly yourself that those around you are encouraged, inspired and magnetically drawn to do the same.

3. Let those who will, judge and mock, whilst you crack on with whatever it is that brings you and those you love, joy.

4. Be remarkably unafraid to be seen as cheesy, cringey or too-much because you know that is actually the very best way to exist in this life.

5. Make kindness your top priority. Make it weird. Make it big. Make it contagious.

6. Create, in the unique way you’ve been created to create. In the way that only you can do so. Do so.

7. Give. Give freely. Give back. Give out. Give in (to the flow). Don’t ever give up.

8. Accept every single soul exactly as they are and show this to be true by accepting yourself in that courageous way, too.

9. Throw love around - let the entire world know you are loving them simply because it’s what each and every soul deserves.

10. Seek and gather all the good stuff along the way. Notice it. Share it around. Let it ripple. Those ripples are your legacy. You might not see it but best believe it matters.

I can’t stop writing about Dolly today (it’s how I cope) but isn’t that exactly what inspirational souls do whilst they walk with us and long after they take their leave. Inspire. Encourage. Affect.

Love to all who this hits hard,

You’re not alone.

My personal journey to become "a swimmer" since last November has taken me to many new and uncomfortable places. I embrace them all! Meeting new people, being in new experiences, challenging myself mentally and physically are all ways to feel alive! I spent 2 days learning new techniques that will allow me to swim more efficiently and joyfully. My coach Betsy was so encouraging and patient. Her father, Terry Laughlin, the founder of TI swimming died at the age of 66, 9 years ago. His wife and daughters are carrying on with his passion for encouraging everyone to swim. It was a blessing on many levels to experience this. Now to keep practicing!! And I hope to inspire others to get in the water.💦🩵

Is it weird that I feel so honored that this monarch caterpillar chose my office porch to set up camp? 😆🦋
