Families usually focus on moving into assisted living, but they also need to understand what could happen later.

Ask:

Under what circumstances can the community require the resident to move?
What happens after a hospitalization or rehabilitation stay?
Who determines whether the resident can return?
Can private-duty care, home health, therapy, or hospice be brought in?
How much notice is required before a transfer or discharge?
What happens if the resident’s finances begin running low?
When do charges stop after a move or death?
How quickly must the apartment be cleared?
What fees or prepaid amounts are refundable?
