Capital Health has organized to meet the needs and address the concerns of our community regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Our protocols follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New Jersey Department of Health. Patients with significant respiratory symptoms who meet CDC guidelines are tested for COVID-19. The indications for testing have recently broadened. As a result, increasing numbers of patients are being tested. Most hospitals will now have admitted patients being monitored for COVID-19.

Patients tested for COVID-19 are kept in isolation. Any material or equipment they contact is rigorously disinfected. Staff caring for such patients wear protective equipment to minimize the possibility of disseminating the virus. This strict protocol for patients being tested is the same that would be used for a patient with actual COVID-19 infection or influenza.

Like all hospitals, we at Capital Health care for many patients with respiratory disease. We have tested patients for COVID-19 under CDC guidelines out of an abundance of caution. Capital Health has not yet cared for a patient with actual COVID-19 infection. We are prepared if and when that event takes place. Patients and visitors can be reassured that it remains safe to receive care at the hospital and visit loved ones.

Out of respect for patient privacy and in compliance with Federal law (HIPAA), Capital Health does not and will not disclose any patient-specific information to the press.

For the latest on COVID-19, visit the CDC website or contact the New Jersey Department of Health Hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
