💪 HAPPY MUSCLE MONDAY! 💪
Part of a massage therapist’s job isn’t just working on your muscles, it’s educating you about what we’re feeling in your body! So let’s talk about a muscle you use ALL the time:
the Biceps Brachii.
Did you know your biceps actually has two heads?
🟣 Long Head
The long head originates from the supraglenoid tubercle of the shoulder blade (scapula) and travels through the shoulder joint before joining the rest of the biceps. Because it crosses the shoulder joint, it can be affected by, and contribute to shoulder dysfunction.
🟣 Short Head
The short head originates from the coracoid process of the scapula, a small bony projection on the front of your shoulder blade.
Both heads come together and attach primarily to the radial tuberosity of the radius in your forearm, helping with elbow flexion and forearm supination (think turning your palm upward).
🤔 Here’s something you may not know…
The long head of the biceps is especially involved in shoulder injuries and dysfunction. Because its tendon passes through the shoulder joint, it can become irritated or compromised with certain shoulder injuries and repetitive overhead movements.
📱 And then there’s our modern-day habit:
THE CELL PHONE!
Hours spent looking down at your phone can contribute to a forward-head and rounded shoulder posture. That position can change how your shoulder blade and upper arm move, potentially placing additional stress on the muscles and tissues around the shoulder, including the biceps tendon.
That doesn't mean your phone is damaging your biceps every time you scroll! But hours of repetitive positioning without movement or postural variation can add up.
✨ So why does shoulder health matter?
Your shoulders are designed for a HUGE range of motion. Keeping them strong, mobile, and functional helps you:
✔️ Reach overhead
✔️ Lift and carry things
✔️ Perform everyday tasks
✔️ Maintain healthy movement patterns
✔️ Reduce unnecessary strain on surrounding muscles and joints
✔️ Keep doing the activities you love!
As massage therapists, we’re constantly assessing how muscles feel, how they move, and how they interact with the rest of your body. Sometimes that “tight spot” you feel isn’t an isolated problem, it can be part of a much bigger movement pattern.
So next time you're scrolling through your phone, check yourself! 📱👀
Drop your shoulders. Tuck your chin. Bring your phone up a little. Take a deep breath. And don't to MOVE!
If your shoulders have been feeling tight, restricted, or just not quite right, let's talk about it at your next session. 💜

✨ Sometimes our clients bring us the coolest things ✨

Check out this incredible vintage find
a Puritan-Bennett Vibrator/Percussor Homecare Kit from 1993. This percussive vibrating massage tool was designed to help with at-home respiratory therapy by simulating manual chest percussion to help loosen mucus.

The coolest part? It still works like new! It's amazing to see how therapeutic tools have evolved over the years, and even more amazing to see how well-built some of these vintage devices were.

A huge THANK YOU to the thoughtful clients who bring us these fascinating gifts and pieces of massage and therapy history. We absolutely love learning about them and sharing them with all of you!

Have you ever seen one of these before?
We'd love to hear your stories! 💜

✨ Have you ever tried a vibration plate? ✨

I love incorporating the vibration plate into my morning routine! It's a simple way to get your body moving and can be a great complement to massage therapy and manual lymphatic drainage.

Some potential benefits include:
💜 Encouraging lymphatic fluid movement
💜 Promoting circulation
💜 Helping reduce stiffness before or after a massage
💜 Supporting muscle activation and balance
💜 Leaving you feeling energized and refreshed

While a vibration plate isn't a replacement for massage or manual lymphatic drainage, it can be a wonderful tool to support your body's natural movement and recovery.

Now I want to hear from YOU! 👇

✨ Have you ever used a vibration plate?
✨ What do you use it for?
✨ Do you prefer using it before or after a workout?
✨ If you've never tried one, would you be willing to give it a shot?

💚 Supporting Your Weight Loss Journey, From the Inside Out 💚

If you're taking a GLP-1 medication, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) can be a wonderful addition to your wellness routine.

As your body adjusts to GLP-1 medications, you may experience bloating, constipation, fluid retention, puffiness, or fatigue. Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, specialized technique designed to support your body's natural lymphatic system, helping it move excess fluid and metabolic waste more efficiently.

✨ Benefits of MLD while on a GLP-1 may include:
• Reduced bloating and digestive discomfort
• Relief from constipation through gentle abdominal lymphatic techniques
• Decreased fluid retention and puffiness in the face and body
• Improved circulation and lymphatic flow
• Increased relaxation and energy as your body adapts to your medication
• Support for overall wellness and recovery

Your lymphatic system works hard behind the scenes every day. Give it the support it deserves while you work toward your health goals.

🌿 Schedule your Manual Lymphatic Drainage session today and start feeling lighter, more energized, and refreshed, one gentle session at a time.

✨ Deep Pressure vs. Deep Tissue: They're NOT the Same Thing ✨

Did you know that one of the biggest misconceptions in massage therapy is that deep pressure and deep tissue massage mean the same thing. They don't!

💪 Deep Pressure simply refers to how much pressure your therapist applies. It can be used with many different massage techniques and is based on your comfort level and preferences.

👐 Deep Tissue Massage is a specific therapeutic technique designed to address chronic muscle tension, restricted fascia, and areas of dysfunction. It uses slow, intentional strokes and focused work on deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. While deep tissue massage can involve firm pressure, it doesn't have to be painful to be effective.

❌ More pressure does not equal better results.
In fact, using excessive pressure can cause your muscles to guard and tighten, making it harder to achieve the desired outcome. Pain is not a measure of how therapeutic a massage is.

✅ The most effective massage is one that uses the right technique, the right amount of pressure, and precise, intentional touch to help your body release tension and restore healthy movement.

At ANew You Massage Therapy & Bodywork, every session is customized to your body's needs; not the outdated "no pain, no gain" mindset. Whether you enjoy light, moderate, or firm pressure, the goal is always the same, helping you feel better and helping your body function at its best.

Your body deserves skill, not unnecessary force. 💜

Costa Rica... what an unforgettable adventure. 🇨🇷💚

This past week was filled with breathtaking nature, endless laughter, and incredible moments shared with both new and old friends. It's a trip that will stay with me for a lifetime.

We played like mermaids in the ocean and beneath waterfalls, searched the rainforest for colorful birds, flowed together through yoga, and gathered around dinners that looked like works of art. We were lucky enough to witness the beauty of Blue Morpho butterflies gliding through the jungle and vibrant Scarlet Macaws soaring overhead.

Every day was a reminder to slow down, be present, and appreciate the nature that surrounds us. My heart is so full of gratitude for everyone who made this experience so special.

A huge thank you to Jessica of the Hamilton Yoga Center and Oxford Yoga Center for organizing and creating such an incredible experience and yoga retreat. Your time, dedication, and heart made this experience truly unforgettable. Thank you to Tim at Pagoda del Loto Azul for your warm hospitality, goofiness and for sharing such a beautiful slice of paradise with all of us. Stay weird and wild!

Until next time, Costa Rica... thank you for the memories.

🌴 Out of Office 🌴

I will be out of the office and unplugging for a little rest, adventure, and self-care. I'll be getting lost in the beauty of Costa Rica on a yoga retreat with some amazing girlfriends and will return on July 6th.

As someone who encourages clients to prioritize their own wellness, it's important that I take time to refill my own cup too. I'm looking forward to slowing down, connecting with nature, practicing yoga, and embracing the Pura Vida lifestyle for a few days.

A special thank you to Jessica and The Hamilton Yoga Center for organizing this incredible retreat and creating an opportunity for connection, growth, adventure, and renewal.

All business-related communication will be returned July 6th. Thank you for your patience and understanding while I'm away.

See you soon, refreshed, recharged, and ready to help you feel your best! 💜

Good morning! ☀️

One of my favorite ways to start the day is by spending a few minutes on a vibration plate. It's a simple way to wake up the body, get moving, and support overall wellness before the day begins.

Benefits of using a vibration plate may include:
✨ Improved circulation
✨ Muscle activation and balance support
✨ Increased mobility and flexibility
✨ Reduced feelings of stiffness
✨ Support for lymphatic flow and healthy fluid movement throughout the body

The lymphatic system relies on movement to help transport lymph fluid throughout the body. Vibration plates can be a great tool to encourage gentle movement and complement a healthy lifestyle.

If you're receiving Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), a vibration plate may help support the work being done during your session by encouraging movement and circulation between appointments. While it doesn't replace MLD, it can be a wonderful addition to your self-care routine.

⚠️ Vibration plates are not appropriate for everyone. Individuals who are pregnant, have a pacemaker or implanted medical device, active blood clots, certain heart conditions, recent surgeries, acute injuries, or other medical concerns should consult their healthcare provider before use.

Movement is medicine, and even a few minutes each morning can help you feel more energized and ready to take on the day!

Have you ever tried a vibration plate?

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to those who served and to the families who carry their legacy forward. May we never forget the courage, sacrifice, and dedication that made our freedoms possible.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. ❤️🤍💙
