At Colligan Funeral Home, being female-owned and operated is part of what makes us different. We bring a personal, thoughtful approach to funeral care—taking time to listen, paying attention to the little details, and helping families create something that truly feels right for them.

No pressure. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just compassionate care from people who understand that the details matter.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11th, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the firefighters, police officers, first responders and everyday Americans who showed extraordinary courage that day.

Many families may not realize that when a current or retired firefighter, police officer or other public safety professional passes away, their department may offer special funeral honors and traditions to recognize their service.

Depending on the department and eligibility, these honors may include an honor guard, flag presentation, ceremonial procession, bell ceremony, or other meaningful tributes.

At Colligan Funeral Home, we are honored to help families coordinate with local police and fire departments so those who spent their lives serving others can be recognized with the respect they deserve.

Today we remember. Today we honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Rain on a wedding day is supposed to be good luck…but what about rain on the day of a funeral?

Some say rain at a funeral means heaven is crying, others believe it’s a sign of cleansing, peace or a soul making its way home.

And some of us funeral directors just think… “I really should have brought an extra pair of shoes.”

What do YOU think?

Rain on a funeral day — beautiful and meaningful, or just bad luck?

Children are not too young to understand death—and they don't need to be protected from every part of it.

It’s okay to use the word “death” with children. Be honest, simple and age-appropriate.

And remember: children are never off limits at a funeral. If they want to attend, speak, draw a picture, write a letter, place something with their loved one, or participate in another way, give them that opportunity.

Most importantly, be present. You don't have to interrogate them with questions about how they feel. Sometimes simply sitting beside them and saying, “I'm here when you want to talk,” is enough.

Children may cry, laugh, play and then suddenly become sad. That's normal. They grieve differently than adults.

We can't take away their pain, but we can make sure they never have to grieve alone.

Have you ever wondered:

• What paperwork will my family need?
• Who has the authority to make my funeral decisions?
• What happens if I’m cremated or buried?
• How much will it cost?
• Can I pay for it ahead of time?
• How do I make sure my wishes are actually known?

These are questions worth answering before a death occurs—not during one.

Pre-planning your funeral isn't just about choosing a casket or cremation. It’s about having the conversations, completing the paperwork, understanding your options, and putting your wishes in writing. Planning ahead can also relieve your family from making difficult decisions while they're grieving.

At Colligan Funeral Home, we can sit down with you, answer your questions, explain the paperwork and legal considerations, help you plan, and discuss options for paying ahead.

You make the decisions.
We help put them in place.
Your family knows what you wanted.

Don't wait until your family has to guess.
