Thank you to Madison Ingrassia, M.S., L-SLP, CCC-SLP, for visiting our CSD 1010 class and sharing her expertise as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation setting! In addition to learning about Graduate School and job expectations, students learned about a “Day in the Life” of an SLP, including dysphagia management, therapy, interdisciplinary collaboration, and working with patients with TBI, Aphasia, Cognitive deficits, and other neurologic conditions. Students had the opportunity to sample thickened liquids, giving them a better understanding of patient experiences and dysphagia management.

There is a saying about doing what you love…and I honestly love my profession. I am always learning something new. And there is something magical about working in a profession where you can make a difference in people’s lives.

Some people find their purpose early in life, and I truly feel like I found mine in speech-language pathology and teaching. ❤️

I love being an SLP because I love helping children and families. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a child grow in confidence, develop language skills, discover literacy, and begin to fall in love with reading. Seeing that moment when a child finally feels successful and believes in themselves is something I never take for granted.

I love helping future SLPs connect the science to the heart of what we do. Watching students become passionate about our field, gain confidence, and discover their own purpose is one of the greatest joys of my career.

Speech-language pathology is so much more than a profession to me; it’s an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others every single day. And after all these years, I still feel incredibly grateful to do work that I truly love.

Being a therapist is the greatest job in the world. I get the opportunity to create relationships with people I may not have otherwise met. My clients and their families mean so much to me. I love getting to be a part of their journey, big or small.

I also feel blessed to be able to teach future SLPs. Their energy and passion is refreshing, and I love answering their burning questions.

And to my mama - the reason I am a SLP - I am so proud of the communicator you are❣️

I am a proud SLP! I love helping people express their ideas, wants and needs in a way that is successful and builds confidence in their communication. Every patient teaches me something about the world. Whether it is how to catch a frog, inspirational advice, a funny joke or how to be a better person, I cherish each and every clinical experience. As a clinical educator, I truly value every student clinician that I'm lucky enough to teach, and I feel humbled to see them making the world better as practicing SLPs. Watching my patients and students flourish is one of my greatest joys! When aspiring students ask if I like my job as an SLP, I give them an exuberant YES! It is a wonderful, fun, life-changing career, and I am so thankful for my journey.
