Summer learning doesn’t have to look like worksheets or homework ☀️📚

Some of the best learning moments happen naturally: baking something new, listening to stories outside, exploring nature, trying a different book series, asking questions, creating, playing, and staying curious.

Small moments add up and keeping learning woven into everyday fun can help children maintain confidence and skills all summer long.

At Collier Literacy & Learning, we love helping families find meaningful (and realistic!) ways to keep literacy and learning part of the summer season 💛

Next time you’re in for a session, stop by our lobby art project and decorate a summer bucket with something you’d like to learn, try, or accomplish this summer ☀️

We’d love to hear what’s on your family’s summer bucket list!

We love resources like Meg & Greg from @‌meggregtworead because they help children experience successful reading while still enjoying rich, engaging stories.

What other decodables or beginner books helped engage your struggling reader?

Meredith Orton, MS, CCC-SLP, will be returning this spring and summer to help cover Corrie’s leave!! Meredith currently works as a department head at Landmark School. To ensure consistent lessons for Corrie’s students, Meredith will be offering Saturday appointments through the remainder of the school year and weekday appointments all summer.

Meredith is a licensed pediatric speech-language pathologist and reading practitioner certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach (A/OGA). She has extensive experience working with clients and students who have executive function, speech/language, and reading difficulties.

When not supporting students and their families, Meredith loves Crossfit, reading, hiking and spending time with her husband, daughter, son and Bernese mountain dog.

We are so excited to have her back for the season!

It’s National Library Week (April 19-25) and we will never stop singing the praises of libraries, but with so many wonderful options how do you know where to start?!

We created this prompt list to try to help alleviate that! Instead of searching shelf after shelf, try letting a few playful prompts guide you. Look for a book that matches each letter and see where it leads you.

Small shifts like this can spark curiosity, reduce overwhelm, and help kids rediscover the joy of choosing their own books.

Reading motivation often grows from exploration and ownership—not pressure. Sometimes all it takes is a fun challenge to get started.

Save this post for your next library trip and let us know what you find. 🧡

Reading opens doors—to imagination, adventure, and new ideas. 📚✨

This beautiful reflection comes from KidsRead2Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting literacy by sharing videos of kids reading to other kids and aligns with the magic we believe stories can bring. We love the accessibility their site and videos provide because every child deserves access to stories, even when reading feels hard. Listening to a story still brings the same wonder, connection, and joy that books are meant to share.

What do stories give you or your child?
